Inference for negativist theory using numerically computed rejection regions

چکیده
A negativist theory is a theory that asserts that an a0ect is absent. Negativist theories are common in statistics and require a test procedure to avoid biasing the conclusions in favor of accepting the theory. New critical value tables are provided and computational methods are introduced to ease practical di3culties with the resulting non-contiguous interval null. Simulations compare the power function of negativist testing to traditional hypothesis testing. A case study, using Canadian stock market data, does not always support e3cient markets (an example of a negativist theory) and reverses previous studies using positivist hypothesis tests. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Foundations of Multivariate Inference Using Modern Computers
Fisher analytically structured pivot functions (PFs) whose distribution does not suggested in 1930's depend on unknown parameters. These pivots provided a foundation for (asymptotic) statistical inference. Anderson (1958, p. 116) introduced the concept of a critical function of observables, which finds the rejection probability of a test for Fisher's pivot. Vinod (1998) shows that Godambe's (19...
متن کاملAccurate Inference for the Mean of the Poisson-Exponential Distribution
Although the random sum distribution has been well-studied in probability theory, inference for the mean of such distribution is very limited in the literature. In this paper, two approaches are proposed to obtain inference for the mean of the Poisson-Exponential distribution. Both proposed approaches require the log-likelihood function of the Poisson-Exponential distribution, but the exact for...
متن کاملREJECTOR: software for population history inference from genetic data via a rejection algorithm
UNLABELLED We introduce REJECTOR, software for parameter estimation and comparison of alternate models of population history from genetic data via a rejection algorithm. Through coalescent simulation, REJECTOR generates numerous gene genealogies, and hence simulated data, under a model of population history specified by the user. Summary statistics derived from such simulated data are compared ...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Techniques for Bayesian Statistical Inference – A comparative review
In this article, we summariseMonte Carlo simulationmethods commonly used in Bayesian statistical computing. We give descriptions for each algorithm and provide R codes for their implementation via a simple 2-dimensional example. We compare the relative merits of these methods qualitatively by considering their general user-friendliness, and numerically in terms of mean squared error and computa...
متن کاملModeling of Nanofiltration for Concentrated Electrolyte Solutions using Linearized Transport Pore Model
In this study, linearized transport pore model (LTPM) is applied for modeling nanofiltration (NF) membrane separation process. This modeling approach is based on the modified extended Nernst-Planck equation enhanced by Debye-Huckel theory to take into account the variations of activity coefficient especially at high salt concentrations. Rejection of single-salt (NaCl) electrolyte is inve...
