چکیده
Throughput fairness in 802.11 environments have been widely studied for most of the researchers. Application protocols with small packet size get lesser throughput compared to large packet size protocols. In this paper, we propose fairness mechanism with selective packet aggregation based on type of protocol. The fairness mechanism affects packets that only belong to delay insensitive protocols. We simulate the mechanism using WLAN simulator and compare the result with standard 802.11g implementation. The simulation result shows, our mechanism can give good equality of throughput and can increase overall system throughput on 802.11g network. TCP and UDP performance for Internet over optical packet-switched networks
Optical packet-switched (OPS) network is a strong candidate for the future Optical Internet. In this paper, we study packet aggregation and deflection routing as employed in OPS networks on the performance of upper layer Internet protocols represented by TCP and UDP. Regarding packet aggregation schemes, we study no aggregation, mixed-flow aggregation, and per-flow aggregation. Our results show...

A strong candidate for the future Internet core is optical packet-switched (OPS) network. In this paper, we study the impact of mechanisms as employed in OPS networks on the performance of upper layer Internet protocols represented by TCP and UDP. The mechanisms we investigate are packet aggregation, deflection routing, and ingress buffering. We show that packet aggregation in general improves ...
متن کاملImproving Bandwidth-power Efficiency of Homogeneous Wireless Networks Using On-meet Threshold Strategy (RESEARCH NOTE)
Over two decades, a problem of location dependent has been focused for improving the communication Bandwidth-Power Efficiency of homogeneous networks. The efficiencies of communication links are weakened by the Hidden Terminal Problem. Thus we propose a Fine – Tune Strategy for analyzing the On-Off communication region. We were observed that the proposed technique had been able to track and mo...
متن کاملPerformance Modelling of IEEE 802.11g Wireless LAN
Fairness of wireless channel access in terms of utilisation and throughput is studied for IEEE 802.11g by using the process algebra PEPA. Three models are presented to describe different operating scenarios. Results are derived which demonstrate when and how unfairness might occur, leading to the penalisation of some nodes in a network.
متن کاملA Thesis for the Degree of Master Voluntary Relaying MAC Protocol for Rate Adaptive Wireless Local Area Networks
To exploit multi-rate capability as well as improve performance in wireless local area networks (WLANs), many rate adaptation mechanisms are proposed on IEEE 802.11 media access control (MAC) layer. However, they lead to performance anomaly problem due to guarantee of throughput fairness. To solve this problem, many cooperative MAC protocols were proposed that are classified into packet aggrega...
