Virtual Surgical Planning and Piezoelectric Surgery in Tumor Extirpative Surgery Aimed at Inferior Alveolar Nerve Preservation
نویسندگان
چکیده
A myriad of extirpative surgical protocols for the management of benign tumors of the jaws have been presented in the literature. Through significant advancements in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology and surgical instrumentation, today surgeons have at their disposal robust technology-driven techniques that are aimed at improving surgical outcomes. Our goal is to investigate the benefits of implementing virtual surgical planning (VSP) in conjunction with piezoelectric surgery (PES) to ensure success while minimizing the risk of complications during extirpation of tumors of the mandible. This case report describes the successful extirpation of an ossifying fibroma of the mandible in an adult patient using both VSP and PES.

Surgical management of Ossifying Fibroma of the mandible with inferior alveolar nerve involvement
Background and Aim: Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a benign fibro-osseous lesion, which is usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40 years. The female to male ratio is 5:1, with affinity for posterior mandibular region. The aim of the present report is to discuss a case of OF and its clinical, radiological and pathological characteristics and the related surgical approach. Case presentation...
متن کاملPiezosurgery in implant dentistry
Piezosurgery, or the use of piezoelectric devices, is being applied increasingly in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The main advantages of this technique are precise and selective cuttings, the avoidance of thermal damage, and the preservation of soft-tissue structures. Through the application of piezoelectric surgery, implant-site preparation, bone grafting, sinus-floor elevation, edentulous r...
متن کاملInferior Alveolar Nerve Damage Related to Mandibular Advancement by Sagittal Split Osteotomy
Background and Objectives: Split sagittal osteotomy is a common operation that may induce inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) damage, potentially leading to sensory deficit, numbness, and pain. Investigations in Iran to evaluate the adverse effects of sagittal split osteotomy surgery are rare so questions have been raised about the success rate of operatio...
متن کاملVirtual Surgical Planning for Mandibular Distraction in Infants with Robin Sequence
Mandibular distraction osteogenesis (MDO) successfully relieves obstructive sleep apnea in many infants with Robin sequence. Preoperative virtual surgical planning and fabrication of three-dimensionally printed cutting guides may lead to further improvements in the MDO technique and decrease the risk for damage to adjacent structures such as developing teeth and the inferior alveolar nerve. Thi...
متن کاملSpatial Relationship between Mandibular Third Molars and Inferior Alveolar Nerve using a Volume Rendering Software
Precise localization of the third molars in relation to the inferior alveolar nerve canal is critical from a clinical point of view and strongly affects the surgical treatment outcome. Recently, by using three-dimensional modeling software, the relationship of third molar root apices and inferior alveolar nerve canal can be better understood. In this study, the spatial relationship of two surgi...
