چکیده

Digital holography is a valuable tool for three-dimensional information extraction. Among existing configurations, the originally proposed set-up (i.e. Gabor, or in-line holography), is reasonably immune to variations in the experimental environment making it a method of choice for studies of fluid dynamics. Nevertheless, standard hologram reconstruction techniques, based on numerical light backpropagation are prone to artifacts such as twin images or aliases that limit both the quality and quantity of information extracted from the acquired holograms. To get round this issue, the hologram reconstruction as a parametric inverse problem has been shown to accurately estimate 3D positions and the size of seeding particles directly from the hologram. To push the bounds of accuracy on size estimation still further, we propose to fully exploit the information redundancy of a hologram video sequence using joint estimation reconstruction. Applying this approach in a bench-top experiment, we show that it led to a relative precision of 0.13 % (for a 60 μm diameter droplet) for droplet size estimation, and a tracking precision of σx×σy×σz = 0.15×0.15×1 pixels. Camera Arrangement in Visual 3D Systems using Iso-disparity Model to Enhance Depth Estimation Accuracy

In this paper we address the problem of automatic arrangement of cameras in a 3D system to enhance the performance of depth acquisition procedure. Lacking ground truth or a priori information, a measure of uncertainty is required to assess the quality of reconstruction. The mathematical model of iso-disparity surfaces provides an efficient way to estimate the depth estimation uncertainty which ...

Testing an in-line digital holography ‘inverse method’ for the Lagrangian tracking of evaporating droplets in homogeneous nearly isotropic turbulence

An in-line digital holography technique is tested, the objective being to measure Lagrangian three-dimensional (3D) trajectories and the size evolution of droplets evaporating in high-Reλ strong turbulence. The experiment is performed in homogeneous, nearly isotropic turbulence (50× 50× 50 mm) created by the meeting of six synthetic jets. The holograms of droplets are recorded with a single hig...

Retrieving Three Dimensional Displacements of InSAR Through Regularized Least Squares Variance Component Estimation

Measuring the 3D displacement fields provide essential information regarding the Earth crust interaction and the mantle rheology. The interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) has an appropriate capability in revealing the displacements of the Earth’s crust. Although, it measures the real 3D displacements in the line of sight (LOS) direction. The 3D displacement vectors can be retrieved ...

Application of Artificial Neural Networks and Support Vector Machines for carbonate pores size estimation from 3D seismic data

This paper proposes a method for the prediction of pore size values in hydrocarbon reservoirs using 3D seismic data. To this end, an actual carbonate oil field in the south-western part ofIranwas selected. Taking real geological conditions into account, different models of reservoir were constructed for a range of viable pore size values.  Seismic surveying was performed next on these models. F...

On the single point resolution of on-axis digital holography.

On-axis digital holography (DH) is becoming widely used for its time-resolved three-dimensional (3D) imaging capabilities. A 3D volume can be reconstructed from a single hologram. DH is applied as a metrological tool in experimental mechanics, biology, and fluid dynamics, and therefore the estimation and the improvement of the resolution are current challenges. However, the resolution depends o...
