چکیده

Introduction During mechanical ventilation, reduction of expiratory pressure may trigger heterogeneous processes of derecruitment, collapse and overdistension of airspaces. However the relationship of such processes with precise regional location inside the lung has not been fully studied in vivo. Synchrotron Radiation Computed Tomography (SRCT) can provide in vivo regional images of the lung at resolutions higher than conventional CT.

0897. Mechanisms of pulmonary inflation during lung injury assessed by synchrotron radiation computed tomography

Introduction The process of lung inflation during mechanical ventilation is characterized by phenomena of alveolar recruitment and distension but regional interaction and temporal sequence are not known for the core areas of the lung. The only information available are referred to subpleural alveoli, studied by microscopy. Relevance of this issue derives from the notion that 1) radiologic studi...

Quantifying Morphological Parameters of the Terminal Branching Units in a Mouse Lung by Phase Contrast Synchrotron Radiation Computed Tomography

An effective technique of phase contrast synchrotron radiation computed tomography was established for the quantitative analysis of the microstructures in the respiratory zone of a mouse lung. Heitzman's method was adopted for the whole-lung sample preparation, and Canny's edge detector was used for locating the air-tissue boundaries. This technique revealed detailed morphology of the respirato...

Establishment of a rat model of radiation-induced lung injury

Background: Radiation-induced lung injury is a refractory side effect in lung cancer radiotherapy, the mechanism still remains unclear, hence an appropriate animal mode may become useful to investigate it. Functionalized synchrotron in-line phase-contrast computed tomography: a novel approach for simultaneous quantification of structural alterations and localization of barium-labelled alveolar macrophages within mouse lung samples

Functionalized computed tomography (CT) in combination with labelled cells is virtually non-existent due to the limited sensitivity of X-ray-absorption-based imaging, but would be highly desirable to realise cell tracking studies in entire organisms. In this study we applied in-line free propagation X-ray phase-contrast CT (XPCT) in an allergic asthma mouse model to assess structural changes as...

Bilocular Stafne Bone Defect above And Below the Inferior Alveolar Canal Assessed by Cone Beam Computed Tomography: A Case Report

Stafne bone defect is a bone depression containing salivary gland or fatty soft tissue on the lingual surface of the mandible. The most common location is within the submandibular gland fossa and often close to the inferior border of the mandible. This defect is asymptomatic and generally discovered only incidentally during radiographic examination of the area. Stafne bone defect appears as a w...
