چکیده

The in vitro activity of a series of ruthenium clusters, [(g-C6H6)(g -C6Me6)2 Ru3(l-H)3(l3-O)][BF4], [(g -C6H6)(g -1,4-PrC6H4Me)(g -C6Me6)Ru3(l-H)3(l3O)][BF4], [(g -C6H6)4Ru4(l-H)4][BF4]2, [(g -C6H5Me)4Ru4(l-H)4][BF4]2 and [(g-C6H6)4Ru4(l-H)3(l-OH)][Cl]2, has been evaluated against A2780 and A2780cisR ovarian carcinoma cell lines. Both triruthenium clusters are very active compared to ruthenium compounds in general, whereas the tetraruthenium clusters do not display significant cytotoxicities. Since the triruthenium clusters are known to form supramolecular interactions with arenes and other functions, it is possible that such interactions are also important with respect to their mode of biological activity. The X-ray structure analysis of [(g-C6H5Me)4Ru4 (l-H)4][PF6]2 is also reported.

Recognition of quaternary ammonium cations by calix[4]arene derivatives supported on gold nanoparticles.

Calix[4]arene derivatives supported on monolayer protected gold clusters show a remarkable enhanced binding efficiency towards quaternary ammonium salts in homogeneous solution of apolar solvents with respect to the corresponding unsupported hosts.

Calix[4]arene-supported rare earth octahedra.

A series of calix[4]arene-supported Ln(III)(6) clusters have been synthesised under facile bench top conditions. The magnetic and structural properties of these clusters are reported, the latter suggesting that the Ln(III)-calix[4]arene moiety may be used for the construction of other assemblies in a manner akin to that for the Mn(III)-calix[4]arene analogue.

Manganese-calcium clusters supported by calixarenes.

The structure of the oxygen-evolving complex of photosystem II, which contains a cubane-like metal-oxo cluster incorporating four manganese(III,IV) cations, along with a calcium cation, has focussed attention on synthetic analogues of this cluster. Despite this activity, there are relatively few structurally characterised coordination clusters with this combination of metal cations. The calixar...
