In previous articles [B. Poirier J. Chem. Phys. 121, 4501 (2004); C. Trahan and B. Poirier, ibid. 124, 034115 (2006); 124, 034116 (2006); B. Poirier and G. Parlant, J. Phys. Chem. A 111, 10400 (2007)] a bipolar counterpropagating wave decomposition, psi = psi(+) + psi(-), was presented for stationary states psi of the one-dimensional Schrodinger equation, such that the components psi(+/-) approach their semiclassical Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin analogs in the large action limit. The corresponding bipolar quantum trajectories are classical-like and well behaved, even when psi has many nodes, or is wildly oscillatory. In this paper, the method is generalized for time-dependent wavepacket dynamics applications and applied to several benchmark problems, including multisurface systems with nonadiabatic coupling.

Ultrafast dynamics induced by the interaction of molecules with electromagnetic fields: Several quantum, semiclassical, and classical approaches
Several strategies for simulating the ultrafast dynamics of molecules induced by interactions with electromagnetic fields are presented. After a brief overview of the theory of molecule-field interaction, we present several representative examples of quantum, semiclassical, and classical approaches to describe the ultrafast molecular dynamics, including the multiconfiguration time-dependent Har...
متن کاملBohmian versus semiclassical description of interference phenomena
The origin of quantum interference characteristic of bound nonlinear systems is investigated within the Bohmian formulation of time-dependent quantum mechanics. By contrast to time-dependent semiclassical theory, whereby interference is a consequence of phase mismatch between distinct classical trajectories, the Bohmian, fully quantum mechanical expression for expectation values has a quasiclas...
متن کاملAre Bohmian trajectories real? On the dynamical mismatch between de Broglie-Bohm and classical dynamics in semiclassical systems
The de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics aims to give a realist description of quantum phenomena in terms of the motion of point-like particles following well-defined trajectories. This work is concerned by the de Broglie-Bohm account of the properties of semiclassical systems. Semiclassical systems are quantum systems that display the manifestation of classical trajectories: the...

In a previous paper [B. Poirier, J. Chem. Phys. 121, 4501 (2004)] a unique bipolar decomposition, psi = psi1 + psi2, was presented for stationary bound states Psi of the one-dimensional Schrodinger equation, such that the components psi1 and psi2 approach their semiclassical WKB analogs in the large action limit. Moreover, by applying the Madelung-Bohm ansatz to the components rather than to Ps...
