چکیده

In previous Compact Toroid (CT) injection experiments on several tokamaks, although CT fuelling had been successfully demonstrated, the CT fuelling process has been not clear yet. We have thus conducted CT injection into simple toroidal or vertical vacuum magnetic fields to investigate quantitatively dynamics of CT plasmoid in the penetration process on a spherical tokamak (ST) device. Understanding the process allows us to address appropriately one of the critical issues for practical application of CT injection on reactor-grade tokamaks. In the experiment, the CT shift amount of about 0.26 m in a vertical magnetic field has been observed by using a fast camera. In addition to toroidal magnetic field, vertical one appears to affect CT trajectory in not conventional tokamak but ST devices operated at rather low toroidal fields. We have also observed CT attacks on the target plate with an IR camera. The IR image has indicated that CT shifts 39 mm at the toroidal field of 261 G. From the calorimetric measurement, an input energy due to CT impact in vacuum without magnetic fields is also estimated to be 530 J, which agrees with the initial CT kinetic energy.

The Use of Compact Toroid Injection for Tokamak Central Fuelling and Runaway Electron (re) Mitigation during Disruption Events

1 Tokamak fuelling using high velocity compact torus (CTs) Compact toroids (CTs) are self-organized magnetized plasmoids in a nearly force-free Taylor state. In the laboratory, CTs can be formed using coaxial electrodes and a solenoid magnetic field coil. The resultant CT equilibrium is sufficiently robust that it can withstand extremely large acceleration ( > 10 g) and can achieve high final v...

Drift-magnetohydrodynamical model of error-field penetration in tokamak plasmas

A previously published magnetohydrodynamical MHD model of error-field penetration in tokamak plasmas is extended to take drift-MHD physics into account. In particular, diamagnetic and semicollisional effects are both fully incorporated into the analysis. The new model is used to examine the scaling of the penetration threshold in ohmic tokamak plasmas. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. DOI:...

Effects of Ct Injector Acceleration Electrode Configuration on Tokamak Penetration

Through compact toroid (CT) injection experiments on the TEXT-U tokamak (with BT ' 10 kG and IP ' 100 kA), it has been shown that the acceleration electrode configuration, particularly in the vicinity of the toroidal field (TF) coils of the tokamak, has a strong effect on penetration performance. In initial experiments, premature stopping of CTs within the injector was seen at anomalously low T...
