The interpretation of granitic textures serial thin sectioning, image analysis three-dimensional reconstruction

چکیده
Textural development of the felsic phases in two granodioritic rocks from the zoned Linga superunit of the Peruvian Coastal Batholith has been characterized using serial thin sectioning, image analysis and threedimensional reconstruction. The study has shown how each mineral phase contributed to the texture during the formation and development of a contiguous crystal framework and during subsequent restriction, isolation and occlusion of the melt-filled porosity. The work highlights the important factors and potential problems in the use of serial thin sections and imaging in the analysis of complex polyphase rock textures.

Your dedication goes here Table of Contents Registration of histological serial sectionings
Image registration is a fundamental task in today's medical imaging. In particular for histological serial sectioning, where a three-dimensional object is cut into thin sections for a further microscopic analysis, registration leads to a three dimensional reconstruction of the sections. This reconstruction enables an exploration of the digitized data in any direction, not only in the cutting di...
متن کاملThree-dimensional ocean chlorophyll distributions from underwater serial-sectioned fluorescence images.
An underwater optical serial-sectioning technique is developed to measure in situ three-dimensional distributions of biological particles. The technique involves scanning of a thin plane of laser light through a range of distances parallel to the imaging plane of a digital CCD camera. Images of induced fluorescence in the sequentially illuminated planes are recorded. An inverse method is then u...
متن کامل3D reconstruction and characterization of polycrystalline microstructures using a FIB–SEM system
A novel methodology is described in this paper which is a step towards three-dimensional representation of grain structures for microstructure characterization and processing microstructural data for subsequent computational analysis. It facilitates evaluation of stereological parameters of grain structures from a series of two-dimensional (2D) electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) maps. Crys...
متن کاملData Processing Challenges for Proper Interpretation of FIB-SEM Nanotomography Imaging Applications
FIB-SEM serial sectioning nanotomography has become a widely adopted technique for inspection of three-dimensional (3D) microstructure in life, materials, and geosciences. Despite the rapid adoption of the technology, there remain data processing and interpretation challenges that are unique to this method. Among those challenges are computationally aligning the sections and estimating the thic...
متن کاملThree dimensional functional cartography of the human basal ganglia by registration of optical and histological serial sections
In functional neurosurgery, there is a need for accurate locatisation of the functional targets. One example is given by Parkinson’s disease. The surgical intervention is based on the introduction of electrodes in the subthalamic nucleus. This nucleus is targeted on pre-operative stereotactic MR acquisitions. But MR imaging of the basal ganglia is intrinsically limited, first by image resolutio...
