The Broad Line Type Ic Supernova Sn 2007ru: Adding to the Diversity of Type Ic Supernovae
نویسندگان
چکیده
Photometric and spectral evolution of the type Ic supernova SN 2007ru during the first 3 months are presented. The spectra show broad spectral features due to very high expansion velocity, normally seen in hypernovae. The photospheric velocity is higher than other type Ic supernovae. It is lower than SN 1998bw at ∼ 8 days after the explosion, but is comparable at later epochs. The light curve evolution of SN 2007ru indicates a fast rise time of 8±3 days to B band maximum and post-maximum decline more rapidly than other broad-line type Ic supernovae. With an absolute V magnitude of −19.10, SN 2007ru is comparable in brightness with SN 1998bw and lies at the brighter end of the observed type Ic supernovae. The mass of Ni is estimated to be ∼ 0.4M⊙. The fast rise and decline of the light curve and the high expansion velocity suggest that SN 2007ru is an explosion with a high kinetic energy/ejecta mass ratio (EK/Mej). This adds to the diversity of type Ic supernovae. Subject headings: supernovae: general supernovae: individual (SN 2007ru)

Carbon Monoxide in the Type Ic Supernova 2000ew
We present K -band (1.9 – 2.5 μm) spectra of the Type Ic SN 2000ew observed with IRCS on the Subaru Telescope. These data show the first detection of carbon monoxide (CO) emission in a Type Ic supernova. The detection of CO in SN 2000ew provides further evidence that molecule formation may be a common occurrence in core-collapse supernova ejecta. The spectrum also contains narrow emission lines...
متن کاملSN 2004 aw : Confirming Diversity of Type Ic Supernovae ⋆
Optical and near-infrared (near-IR) observations of the Type Ic supernova (SN Ic) 2004aw are presented, obtained from −3 to +413 days with respect to the B-band maximum. The photometric evolution is characterised by a comparatively slow postmaximum decline of the light curves. The peaks in redder bands are significantly delayed relative to the bluer bands, the I-band maximum occurring 8.4 days ...
متن کاملHYDROGEN IN TYPE Ic SUPERNOVAE?
By definition, a Type Ic supernova (SN Ic) does not have conspicuous lines of hydrogen or helium in its optical spectrum. SNe Ic usually are modelled in terms of the gravitational collapse of bare carbon–oxygen cores. We consider the possibility that the spectra of ordinary (SN 1994I–like) SNe Ic have been misinterpreted, and that SNe Ic eject hydrogen. An absorption feature usually attributed ...
متن کاملLONG -RAY BURSTS AND TYPE Ic CORE-COLLAPSE SUPERNOVAE HAVE SIMILAR LOCATIONS IN HOSTS
When the afterglow fades at the site of a long-duration -ray burst (LGRB), Type Ic supernovae (SNe Ic) are the only type of core-collapse supernova observed. Recent work found that a sample of LGRB in high-redshift galaxies had different environments from a collection of core-collapse environments, which were identified from their colors and light curves. LGRBs were in the brightest regions of ...
متن کاملBi-polar Supernova Explosions
We discuss the optical spectropolarimetry of several core-collapse supernovae, SN 1996cb (Type IIB), SN 1997X (Type Ic), and SN 1998S (Type IIn). The data show polarization evolution of several spectral features at levels from 0.5% to above 4%. The observed line polarization is intrinsic to the supernovae and not of interstellar origin. These data suggest that the the distribution of ejected ma...
