چکیده

We report on a transition metal contribution to the rare-earth L2-edge XMCD spectrum of intermetallic rareearth transition metal compounds (R-T). The shape and location of this contribution is independent on both the specific rare-earth and the specific 3d metal in the compound. The evolution of the signal with the 3d content indicates that the signal is proportional to the number of T neighboring atoms around the absorbing R atom. In addition, comparison between Fe and Co Laves compounds indicates that the signal also resembles the magnetic moment of the T metal. Comparison with other R:T series shows that the presence of a T contribution is not a particularity of Laves phases but a general result.

Experimental determination of the R(5d)-T(3d) hybridization in rare-earth intermetallics

We present an x-ray magnetic circular dichroism XMCD study performed at the R L2 edge in RAl2 and RT2 T=Fe,Co intermetallic compounds. By analyzing the modification of the XMCD spectra as both the rare earth and the alloyed element Al, Fe, or Co are changed in the compound, an extra contribution, XMCDT, has been identified and undoubtedly associated with the R 5d -T 3d hybridization in Fe and C...

M ay 1 99 8 Rare earth contributions to the X - ray magnetic circular dichroism at the Co K edge in rare earth - cobalt compounds investigated by multiple - scattering calculations

The X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) has been measured at the Co K edge in hcp-Co and R-Co compounds (R=La, Tb, Dy). The structure of the experimental XMCD spectra in the near-edge region has been observed to be highly sensitive to the magnetic environment of the absorbing site. Calculations of the XMCD have been carried out at the Co K edge in Co metal, LaCo 5 and TbCo 5 within the mul...

Fluorescence-detected X-ray magnetic circular dichroism of well-defined Mn(II) and Ni(II) doped in MgO crystals: credential evaluation for measurements on biological samples.

L(2,3)-edge X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectra have been measured for the well-defined dilute Ni(II) and Mn(II) ions doped into a MgO crystal, with sub-Kelvin dilution refrigerator cooling and 2 T magnetic field magnetization. A 30-element Ge array X-ray detector has been used to measure the XMCD for these dilute ions, whose concentrations are 1400 ppm for Ni(II) and 10,000 ppm fo...

Synthesis, Spectroscopy and Magnetic Characterization of Five Dinuclear Copper(II) Complexes with 2, 3 or 4-Pyridinemethanol as the Ligand

The synthesis, spectroscopy and magnetic characterization of five new dinuclear copper(II) complexes are described. All five compounds have the general formula [Cu2(L)4(O-R)2](Cl)2 or [Cu2(L)2(Cl)2](Cl)2, in which R = CH3 or H, L=2, 3 or 4-pyridinemethanol as L2, L3 or L4, respectively. The title compounds consist of dinuclear units with bridging methoxo groups in [Cu2(L4)4(O-CH3)2](Cl)2, hydro...
