ARTHROPOD BIOLOGY Morphological and Genetic Divergence in Three Populations of Anthocoris antevolens (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Anthocoridae)

چکیده
Anthocoris antevolensWhite (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) is a widespread predatory bug in North America that exhibits substantial geographic variation in coloration, body measurements, size and shape of the male genitalia, pubescence, and sexual behavior. Earlier behavioral studies with three populations (including two populations that are sympatric in central Washington) showed that there was limited or no successful mating between insects from nonlike populations, despitevigorousmatingattemptsbymales.Thecurrent study shows thatmales fromthose three populations diverge also in size and shape of claspers, length of the phallus, bodymeasurements, and pubescence. Divergence extends to the two sympatric populations. Analysis of mitochondrial DNA shows that phenotypic divergence is associated with genetic divergence. Results reported here, in combinationwith the earlier publishedmating trials, support statementsmade elsewhere by us that A. antevolens is actually a complex of an unknown number of externally similar species.

ECOLOGY AND POPULATION BIOLOGY Seasonal Distribution of Anthocoris spp. and Deraeocoris brevis (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae, Miridae) in Orchard and Non-Orchard Habitats of Central Washington
Occurrence of Anthocoris tomentosus Péricart, A. antevolens White, A. whitei Reuter, and Deraeocoris brevis (Uhler) in non-orchard habitats is described for areas adjacent to the pear growing regions of Yakima, WA. The four species were found on a number of tree and shrub species, especiallywillow, cottonwood, oak, alder, aspen, poplar, andbitterbrush. The four predators differed in degree of s...
متن کاملTrue bugs (Hemiptera, Heteroptera) as psyllid predators (Hemiptera, Psylloidea)
Data on natural enemies of psyllids are rare and can usually be found in papers about economically significant species. During an investigation of psyllid fauna in Serbia, natural enemies were investigated, too. True bugs were the most numerous among them. From 28 psyllid species, 21 species of true bugs from families Anthocoridae and Miridae were reared. Seven species of Anthocoridae were iden...
متن کاملBiogeographical Origin and Speciation of the Anthocoris nemorum Group
The Anthocoris nemorum group belongs to the Anthocoridae (Hemiptera), and is an important group of predators of agricultural pests. A phylogeny was constructed in conjunction with dispersal-vicariance analysis of the Anthocoris nemorum group species in order to discern the relationships between the phylogeographical structuring of A. nemorum group species, and the effects of the Qinghai-Tibet p...

A new minute pirate bug of the genus Scoloposcelis (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) from West Malaysia.
Scoloposcelis seidaii sp. nov. is described from the Malay Peninsula based on a single specimen collected under the bark of a decaying tree. This discovery represents the first distribution record of the genus Scoloposcelis from Malaysia. Habitus photographs and diagnosis of S. parallela (Motschulsky, 1863) are provided for comparison with S. seidaii.
