The cold pressor test and autonomic function: a review and integration.

چکیده
The purpose of the present paper is to review the literature on the cold pressor test and to discuss the ways in which these investigations have pointed toward a model of homeostatic function. The research empioying the coid pressor test includes studies of psychosomatic iiiness, factors influencing autonomic response to stress, the relationship between psychological disorder and autonomic responsivity, as well as studies of cortical influences on autonomic function, and the relationship between stress and task performance. From these studies, several parameters of a potential model of homeostasis are selected and discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of autonomic balance and initial values in influencing autonomic response to

Clinical evaluation of vasomotor system functionality in type 2 diabetic Patients
Background: Autonomic neuropathy and vital organ dysfunctions are the known complications in type 2 diabetes Mellitus (DM). Genetic endowments involving individuals make subtle differences in physiological systems, particularly at the time of sickness. Hence, the presented study was designed to evaluate the vasomotor system in healthy people and type 2 DM cases for determining any functionality...
متن کاملRelationship between serum methadone concentration and cold pressor pain sensitivity in patients undergoing methadone maintenance therapy
Hyperalgesia is a common clinical phenomenon among opioid dependent patients on methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) and it may be associated with undertreated pain and/or therapeutic failure. This study aimed to investigate association between serum methadone concentration (SMC) and cold pressor pain responses. Cold pressor pain responses in 147 opioid dependent patients on MMT were assessed us...

متن کاملCold stress and the cold pressor test.
Temperature and other environmental stressors are known to affect blood pressure and heart rate. In this activity, students perform the cold pressor test, demonstrating increased blood pressure during a 1- to 2-min immersion of one hand in ice water. The cold pressor test is used clinically to evaluate autonomic and left ventricular function. This activity is easily adapted to an inquiry format...
متن کاملAssessment of autonomic nervous system function in patients with non-alcoholic cirrhosis
Automatic dysfunction may contribute to the hemodynamic disturbances in cirrhosis. Tests of autonomic function were performed in 31 patients with non-alcoholic cirrhosis and 30 healthy subjects. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to child- Pugh,s classification ( A.B.C). The patients with moderate and severe cirrhosis( child B,C) had significant parasympathetic disturbance ( in the v...
