Volume Integral Equation Methods for Scattering from Gratings: The TM Case
نویسندگان
چکیده
We analyze electromagnetic TM scattering from a diffraction grating consisting of a dielectric with possibly negative real part. The scattering problem can be reformulated as a strongly singular volume integral equation, a technique that attracts continuous interest in the engineering community, but rarely received rigorous theoretic treatment. In this paper, we provide (generalized) G̊arding estimates in weighted and unweighted Sobolev spaces for the integral equation. Moreover, we show that trigonometric Galerkin methods applied to a periodization of the integral equation converge. Fully discrete formulas show that the numerical scheme is easy to implement and numerical examples show the performance of the method.

Volume Integral Equations for Scattering from Anisotropic Diffraction Gratings
We analyze electromagnetic scattering of TM polarized waves from a diffraction grating consisting of a periodic, anisotropic, and possibly negative-index dielectric material. Such scattering problems are important for the modelization of, e.g., light propagation in nano-optical components and metamaterials. The periodic scattering problem can be reformulated as a strongly singular volume integr...
متن کاملA New Integral Equation Formulation for Scattering by Penetrable Diffraction Gratings
This paper is concerned with the problem of scattering of time-harmonic electromagnetic waves from penetrable diffraction gratings in the 2D polarization case. We propose a new, weakly singular, integral equation formulation for the scattering problem which is proved to be uniquely solvable. A main feature of the new integral equation formulation is that it avoids the computation of the normal ...
متن کاملA trigonometric Galerkin method for volume integral equations arising in TM grating scattering
Transverse magnetic (TM) scattering of an electromagnetic wave from a periodic dielectric diffraction grating can mathematically be described by a volume integral equation. This volume integral equation, however, in general fails to feature a weakly singular integral operator. Nevertheless, after a suitable periodization, the involved integral operator can be efficiently evaluated on trigonomet...

In this paper, the physical optics method is used to study the problem of electromagnetic scattering from Haack series nose cone. First, a meshing scheme is introduced which approximates the curvature of the surface by piecewise linear functions in both axial and rotational directions. This results in planar quadrilateral patches and enables efficient determination of the illuminated region and...
متن کاملRobust fast direct integral equation solver for quasi-periodic scattering problems with a large number of layers.
We present a new boundary integral formulation for time-harmonic wave diffraction from two-dimensional structures with many layers of arbitrary periodic shape, such as multilayer dielectric gratings in TM polarization. Our scheme is robust at all scattering parameters, unlike the conventional quasi-periodic Green's function method which fails whenever any of the layers approaches a Wood anomaly...
