چکیده
the first Imperial Easter egg from the House of Fabergé as a gift for his wife, Maria Feodorovna. Upon Alexander’s death in 1894, his son, Emperor Nikolai II, continued this Imperial family tradition, annually requesting one egg for his mother and another for his wife. The skilled artisans who created these treasures worked under the auspices of master craftsman Peter Carl Fabergé, head of the firm that still bears his family name. Fabergé operated with creative freedom, and his craftsmen had a treasure chest of riches at their disposal. Diamonds, pearls, sapphires, rubies, gold, guilloché enamel, aquamarine, lapis lazuli, ivory, mother of pearl, and platinum were commonly used embellishments. Each of these unique 50 objets d’art created during 1885–1916 shared a single feature: a concealed surprise. These sequestered miniature wonders include a rotating globe, a replica of Gatchina Palace, a four-leaf clover, a gold watch, Peter the Great’s monument on the Neva River, miniature portraits, a mechanical swan, an 18th century carriage that took 14 months to complete, and a jeweled elephant automaton (rediscovered in 2015 and reunited with its egg in 2017). Fabergé expert Géza von Habsburg describes Fabergé eggs as being “the absolute summit of craftsmanship. They are unbelievably made. They were the sort of apogee of

متن کاملLocality and Causality in Hidden Variables Models of Quantum Theory
Motivated by Popescu’s example of hidden nonlocality, we elaborate on the conjecture that quantum states that are intuitively nonlocal, i.e., entangled, do not admit a local causal hidden variables model. We exhibit quantum states which either (i) are nontrivial counterexamples to this conjecture or (ii) possess a new kind of more deeply hidden irreducible nonlocality. Moreover, we propose a no...
متن کاملOn Derivation of MLP Backpropagation from the Kelley-Bryson Optimal-Control Gradient Formula and Its Application
The well-known backpropagation (BP) derivative computation process for multilayer perceptrons (MLP) learning can be viewed as a simplified version of the Kelley-Bryson gradient formula in the classical discrete-time optimal control theory [1]. We detail the derivation in the spirit of dynamic programming, showing how they can serve to implement more elaborate learning whereby teacher signals ca...
متن کاملPredictors of the Degree of Positive Earnings Surprises
This study identifies the predictors of positive earnings surprises at varying levels of earnings surprises under strong and weak business conditions (2014 and 2010, respectively). It measures the impact on surprises of a unique and diverse set of predictors such as analyst coverage and industry type which are security characteristics and sales and cash flow that emanate from financial statemen...
متن کاملUnsupervised onset detection: A probabilistic approach using ICA and a hidden Markov classifier
We describe an onset detection system that takes a twostage approach, both of which are based on unsupervised learning in a probabilistic model. The first stage uses independent component analysis (ICA) to fit a short-term non-Gaussian model to frames of audio data. This model is used to generate a reduced signal to be interpreted as the ‘surprisingness’ of the original audio signal. Our hypoth...
