Spin dependence of the scattering of protons from halo nuclei.

چکیده
The optical potential and observables for protonHe elastic scattering are studied within the single scattering approximation to the Kerman, McManus, and Thaler (KMT) multiple scattering expansion. Calculations are performed for protonHe elastic scattering at 72 MeV/nucleon, for which there are available experimental data, and also at 200 MeV/nucleon incident energy. It is shown that the calculated elastic scattering observables are modified significantly by the inclusion of the protonHe spin dependence arising from the nucleon-nucleon amplitude. The roles of the core and valence nucleon contributions to this spin dependence are clarified.

Implications of Recent Nucleon Spin Structure Measurements For Neutralino Dark Matter Detection
Predicted rates for direct and indirect detection of dark-matter neutralinos depend in general on the spin content of the nucleon. Neutralinos that are predominantly B-ino are the likeliest candidates for detection via spin-dependent interactions. Uncertainties in the measured spin content of the nucleon may lead to dramatic uncertainties in the rates for detection of B-inos by scattering off o...
متن کاملSizes of the He isotopes deduced from proton elastic scattering measurements
Glauber theory provides a microscopic formulation of reactions of composite nuclei at high energies. Two approaches, recently used for the treatment of the proton–He systems, are discussed and contrasted. The observed sensitivity of few-body calculations to the nuclear size and structure inputs used is discussed. It has been demonstrated that reaction calculations which include an explicit trea...

The knowledge of nuclear reaction rates is important for studying energy production and nucleosynthesis, especially in reactions including nuclei far from stability line, which are not accessible experimentally so far and thus it is necessary to be able to predict reaction cross sections in low excitation energies. Nuclear level density is one of the important key quantities in many nuclear phy...
متن کاملAnalytical potential for the elastic scattering of light halo nuclei in the Coulomb field of heavy targets
Light halo nuclei are exotic and weakly-bound systems that have attracted much interest during the past decades [1]. In particular neutron-rich nuclei near the dripline provide a new path for studying nuclear matter and correlations at low densities. In these nuclei, the halo is often formed by one or several loosely attached (valence) neutrons with binding energies of less than 1 MeV and with ...
متن کاملCoupling effects in proton scattering from 40Ca
Recent studies showed that neutron pickup makes a substantial contribution to the proton optical model potential (OMP) for light, mostly halo, target nuclei. Here, we extend those studies to a more “normal” target nucleus: 40Ca. We present coupled reaction channel (CRC) calculations with the coupling of 30.3 MeV incident protons to deuterons and up to 12 states of 39Ca. The proton elastic scatt...
