Electronic Components as Luminescence Retrospective Accident Dosimeters
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study investigated the dosimetric properties of various electronic components extracted from a new generation mobile phone using optically stimulated luminescence and thermoluminescence. The studied resistors exhibit high linearity in the dose range of interest, signal repeatibility and reproducibility, along with a minimum detectable dose of 16 mGy after preheating.

As public concern mounts over exposures to ionizing radiation stemming from environmental releases of radionuclides following nuclear accidents, there is a growing need to develop reliable techniques that reconstruct exposures and doses to individuals. Especially in situations where conventional dosimeters were not in place at the time of facing to radiation exposure. In order to provide guidan...
متن کاملRadiation-induced damage analysed by luminescence methods in retrospective dosimetry and emergency response.
The increasing risk of a mass casualty scenario following a large scale radiological accident or attack necessitates the development of appropriate dosimetric tools for emergency response. Luminescence dosimetry has been reliably applied for dose reconstruction in contaminated settlements for several decades and recent research into new materials carried close to the human body opens the possib...

In the retrospective dose assessment of individuals potentially exposed to ionizing radiation after an accident, dosimetry with inert materials can complement or be used as an alternative to biodosimetry assays. Dosimetry based on physical methods such as Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), Thermoluminescence (TL) or Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) provides measurements of absorbed d...
متن کاملOptically stimulated luminescence in vivo dosimetry for radiotherapy: physical characterization and clinical measurements in (60)Co beams.
A commercial optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimetry system was investigated for in vivo dosimetry in radiation therapy. Dosimetric characteristics of InLight dot dosimeters and a microStar reader (Landauer Inc.) were tested in (60)Co beams. The reading uncertainty of a single dosimeter was 0.6%. The reproducibility of a set of dosimeters after a single irradiation was 1.6%, while in ...
متن کاملProton beam dosimetry: a comparison between a plastic scintillator, ionization chamber and Faraday cup.
In this study, a comparison was made between a plastic scintillator (BC400), a Faraday Cup (FC) and an ionization chamber (IC) used for routine proton dosimetry. Thin scintillators can be applied to proton dosimetry and consequently to proton therapy as relative dosimeters because of their water-equivalent nature, high energy-light conversion efficiency, low dimensions and good proportionality ...
