Accuracy of carbapenem nonsusceptibility for identification of KPC-possessing Enterobacteriaceae by use of the revised CLSI breakpoints.

چکیده
Using the updated 2010 CLSI carbapenem breakpoints for the Enterobacteriaceae, nonsusceptibility to ertapenem and imipenem predicted the presence of bla(KPC) poorly, especially among Escherichia coli and Enterobacter species. In regions where KPC-producing bacteria are endemic, testing for nonsusceptibility to meropenem may provide improved accuracy in identifying these isolates.

Evaluation and Identification of Carbapenem Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Hospitalized Patients in Qom City, (Iran)
Background and Objectives: Klebsiella pneumonia is a facultative anaerobe bacterium from enterobacteriaceae family, which causes a wide range of diseases, such as urinary tract infections, cystitis, pneumonia, surgical wounds infections, infectious endocarditis, and diffused infections, especially in patients with HIV infection and immunosuppression. The aim of this study was to identify carbap...

Detecting carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) can be difficult. In particular, the absence of FDA-cleared automated antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) devices that use revised Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) carbapenem breakpoints for Enterobacteriaceae and the lack of active surveillance tests hamper the clinical laboratory. In this issue of the Journal of Cli...

متن کاملDetection of the Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) in K. pneumoniae Isolated from the Clinical Samples by the Phenotypic and Genotypic Methods
Background and Objective: The production of carbapenemases especially Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) is the most important mechanism of enzymatic resistance in isolated Enterobacteriaceae such as K. pneumoniae. The purpose of this study was detected of the carbapenemase producer K. pneumoniae strains with phenotypic and genotypic ...
متن کاملPresence of the KPC carbapenemase gene in Enterobacteriaceae causing bacteremia and its correlation with in vitro carbapenem susceptibility.
During 6 months, we obtained Enterobacteriaceae isolates from patients with gram-negative bacteremia at a 1,250-bed teaching hospital in St. Louis, MO, and compared carbapenem susceptibilities with the presence of bla(KPC), a transferable carbapenemase gene. Three (1.2%) out of 243 isolates were bla(KPC) positive. Ertapenem nonsusceptibility had a low positive predictive value.
