The contact-stabilized Newmark method: consistency error of a spatiotemporal discretization

چکیده

The paper considers an improved variant of the contact-stabilized Newmark method by Deuflhard et al., which provides a spatiotemporal numerical integration of dynamical contact problems between viscoelastic bodies in the frame of the Signorini condition. Up no now, the question of consistency in the case of contact constraints has been discussed for time integrators in function space under the assumption of bounded total variation of the solution. Here, interest focuses on the consistency error of the Newmark scheme in physical energy norm after discretization both in time and in space. The resulting estimate for the local discretization error allows to prove global convergence of the Newmark scheme under an additional assumption on the active contact boundaries. A Monotone Multigrid Solver for Two Body Contact Problems in Biomechanics

The purpose of the paper is to apply monotone multigrid methods to static and dynamic biomechanical contact problems. In space, a finite element method involving a mortar discretization of the contact conditions is used. In time, a new contact–stabilized Newmark scheme is presented. Numerical experiments for a two body Hertzian contact problem and a biomechanical application are reported.

Mixed FEM of higher-order for time-dependent contact problems

In this paper mixed finite element methods of higher-order for time-dependent contact problems are discussed. The mixed methods are based on resolving the contact conditions by the introduction of Lagrange multipliers. Dynamic Signorini problems with and without friction are considered involving thermomechanical and rolling contact. Rothe’s method is used to provide a suitable time and space di...

Some Second Order Time Accurate for a Finite Volume Method for the Wave Equation Using a Spatial Multidimensional Generic Mesh∗

The present work is an extension of the previous one [1] which dealt with error analysis of a finite volume scheme of first order (both in time and space) for second order hyperbolic equations on general nonconforming multidimensional spatial meshes introduced recently in [4]. The aim of this contribution is to get some second–order time accurate schemes for a finite volume method for second or...

Towards an efficient numerical simulation of complex 3D knee joint motion

We present a time-dependent finite element model of the human knee joint of full 3D geometric complexity together with advanced numerical algorithms needed for its simulation. The model comprises bones, cartilage and the major ligaments, while patella and menisci are still missing. Bones are modeled by linear elastic materials, cartilage by linear viscoelastic materials, and ligaments by onedim...

The Effects of Newmark Method Parameters on Errors in Dynamic Extended Finite Element Method Using Response Surface Method

The Newmark method is an effective method for numerical time integration in dynamic problems. The results of Newmark method are function of its parameters (β, γ and ∆t). In this paper, a stationary mode I dynamic crack problem is coded in extended finite element method )XFEM( framework in Matlab software and results are verified with analytical solution. This paper focuses on effects of main pa...
