Voluntary vs

چکیده

Companies making initial public offerings in Greece were obliged to include next year‟s profit in the new issue prospectuses until the regulations changed to voluntary status. This study takes advantage of these two regulatory regimes and compares the accuracy of earnings forecasts under both mandatory and voluntary disclosure environments. Findings indicate behavioural change, as pessimistic earnings forecasts during the mandatory era turn optimistic in the voluntary period. The comparison of these two regimes suggests that mandatory earnings forecasts can force firms to forecast that have neither the incentives nor the ability to do so. Instead, the results imply that regulations penalizing IPOs for providing highly inaccurate forecasts appear to be a more appropriate regulatory strategy. Accuracy of earnings improves after the introduction of voluntary disclosures where firms that provide forecasts are characterized as mature, with high demand multiple and low retained ownership.

Voluntary drinking behaviour, fluid balance and psychological affect when ingesting water or a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution during exercise.

This study investigated the effects of drink composition on voluntary intake, hydration status, selected physiological responses and affective states during simulated gymnasium-based exercise. In a randomised counterbalanced design, 12 physically active adults performed three 20-min intervals of cardiovascular exercise at 75% heart rate maximum, one 20-min period of resistance exercise and 20 m...

Neural correlates of voluntary breathing in humans.

To investigate the functional neuroanatomy of voluntary respiratory control, blood O2 level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging was performed in six healthy right-handed individuals during voluntary hyperpnea. Functional images of the whole brain were acquired during 30-s periods of spontaneous breathing alternated with 30-s periods of isocapnic hyperpnea [spontaneous vs. voluntary:...

Fatigue-related firing of distal muscle nociceptors reduces voluntary activation of proximal muscles of the same limb.

With fatiguing exercise, firing of group III/IV muscle afferents reduces voluntary activation and force of the exercised muscles. These afferents can also act across agonist/antagonist pairs, reducing voluntary activation and force in nonfatigued muscles. We hypothesized that maintained firing of group III/IV muscle afferents after a fatiguing adductor pollicis (AP) contraction would decrease v...

Spontaneous baroreflex sensitivity in young and older people during voluntary and electrically evoked isometric exercise.

BACKGROUND In young people, cardiovagal baroreflex sensitivity alters during isometric exercise. We investigated whether the reduced resting baroreflex sensitivity seen with increasing age is similarly altered during exercise. METHODS Cardiovagal baroreflex sensitivity was examined in 8 young (age+/-SEM, 25+/-1.7 years) and 9 older (61+/-3.0 years) subjects, using sequence analysis during vol...

Fatigue-related firing of muscle nociceptors reduces voluntary activation of ipsilateral but not contralateral lower limb muscles.

During fatiguing upper limb exercise, maintained firing of group III/IV muscle afferents can limit voluntary drive to muscles within the same limb. It is not known if this effect occurs in the lower limb. We investigated the effects of group III/IV muscle afferent firing from fatigued ipsilateral and contralateral extensor muscles and ipsilateral flexor muscles of the knee on voluntary activati...
