چکیده

Background The use of the microarray tool is an essential advantage in the allergy diagnosis process in patients with multiple sensitizations showing clinical patterns attributable to the underlying cross-reaction to a single or multiple panallergen. Among panallergens LTP is a thermostable and resistant to pepsin digestion allergen. This features makes it a potent food allergens and explains the frequent development of systemic symptoms.

Is Microarray Analysis Really Useful and Sufficient to Diagnose Nut Allergy in the Mediterranean Area?

BACKGROUND Component-based diagnosis on multiplex platforms is widely used in food allergy but its clinical performance has not been evaluated in nut allergy. OBJECTIVE To assess the diagnostic performance of a commercial protein microarray in the determination of specific IgE (sIgE) in peanut, hazelnut, and walnut allergy. METHODS sIgE was measured in 36 peanut-allergic, 36 hazelnut-allerg...

Sensitization Prevalence, Antibody Cross-Reactivity and Immunogenic Peptide Profile of Api g 2, the Non-Specific Lipid Transfer Protein 1 of Celery

BACKGROUND Celery (Apium graveolens) represents a relevant allergen source that can elicit severe reactions in the adult population. To investigate the sensitization prevalence and cross-reactivity of Api g 2 from celery stalks in a Mediterranean population and in a mouse model. METHODOLOGY 786 non-randomized subjects from Italy were screened for IgE reactivity to rApi g 2, rArt v 3 (mugwort ...

Do Skin Prick Test and In Vitro Techniques Diagnose Sensitization to Peach Lipid Transfer Protein and Profilin Equally Well in Allergy to Plant Food and Pollen?

OBJECTIVE To compare the skin prick test (SPT) with in vitro techniques (single and multiplex fluorescence enzyme-immunoassay [FEIA]) for detecting sensitization to profilin and lipid transfer protein (LTP). METHODS We retrospectively studied 181 patients with pollen and/or plant food allergy and 61 controls. SPT was performed with date palm profilin (Pho d 2) and peach LTP (Pru p 3), and spe...

Molecular allergology in practice: an unusual case of LTP allergy.

The authors describe an unusual case of LTP allergy. A 35 years old patient presented repeated episodes of angiooedema after food intake and complained 10 years ago of contact urticaria and rhinoconjunctivitis when exposed to cannabis leaves and to marijuana smoke. The suspected responsible foods, such as wheat flour in bread, are known to contain LTR Oral syndrome occurred after ingestion of w...

Tomato nsLTP as an "In Vivo" Diagnostic Tool: Sensitization in a Mediterranean Population.

BACKGROUND Tomato allergies have been extensively studied but component-resolved in vivo diagnosis with purified allergens has yet to be performed. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the prevalence of sensitization to Sola l 3 in a Mediterranean population, and to compare the resulting sensitization profile with that of individuals sensitized to tomato, peach, and/or purified lipid transfer protein (LTP)...
