Mixing efficiency in a run-down gravity current

چکیده
We present measurements of mixing efficiency in a run-down gravity current created by lock exchange in a channel. Experiments were designed to extend to particularly high Reynolds number (of order 10, based on the current depth), at which mixing is no longer affected significantly by viscosity. Under these conditions, we observe that the run-down density profiles in the channel achieve full self-similarity and that the mixing efficiency asymptotes to a value of 0.08.

Rapid mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a three-dimensional micro-mixer using non-uniform magnetic field
The mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a magnetic micro-mixer was studied numerically using ferrofluid. The mixing process was performed in a three-dimensional steady-state micro-mixer. A magnetic source was mounted at the entrance of the micro-channel to oscillate the magnetic particles. The effects of electric current, inlet velocity, size of magnetic particles, and non-Newtonia...

Micromixers are one of the most crucial components of Lab-On-a-Chip devices with the intention of mixing and dispersion of reagents like small molecules and particles. The challenge facing micromixers is typically insufficient mixing efficiency in basic designs, which results in longer microchannels. Therefore, it is desirable to increase mixing efficiency, in order to decrease mixing length, w...

We study entrainment in lock-release gravity currents using highly spatially resolved optical transmission experiments and quantitative analysis of the available potential energy of the flow. The principal results provide a resolution to the debate regarding the mechanism and degree of mixing in the head of a gravity current during the slumping phase. The nature of the complex internal mixing s...
متن کاملAn experimental investigation of density-stratified inertial gravity currents
Turbidity currents and pyroclastic density currents may originate as stratified flows or develop stratification during propagation. Analogue, density-stratified laboratory currents are described, using layers of salt solutions with different concentrations and depths to create the initial vertical stratification. The evolving structure of the flow depends on the distribution of the driving buoy...

The national height system of Iran, orthomertic height, is referred to geoid as the vertical datum. Consequently, the geoid has many important applications in engineering. The slow, laborious and expensive orthomertic heights can be obtained in sufficient accuracy level from geodetic height (derived by GNSS observations) and a precise geoidal height. Over the past two decades, the gravity divis...
