چکیده

Lyme borreliosis is an important clinical illness, the incidence of which has increased gready during the previous decade.! Nationally the disease has been documented in 46 states with a 16-fold increase in reported cases since 1982.2 Lyme disease is named after the town of Old Lyme, Connecticut, from which the first cases reported in the United States were found. 3 Our service area in Connecticut remains an area of high occurrence for Lyme disease.4 Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, which is spread to humans by a tick vector, primarily Ixodes damminii. It is a multisystem illness potentially involving the skin, heart, joints, and central nervous system.5 The eyes, lymphatics, respiratory system, and genitourinary system can also be involved.6 Involvement of the liver is also known to occur.5,6 We report a case of early disseminated Lyme disease in which hepatocellular dysfunction was discovered. This subclinical hepatitis resolved completely after appropriate treatment with oral antibiotics.

Identification of Two Epitopes on the Outer Surface Protein A of the Lyme Disease Spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi

A murine IgM monoclonal antibody (MA-2C6) with κ-light chains directed against an antigenic determinant of outer surface protein A (OspA) of the Lyme disease spirochete, Borreliaburgdorferi, is produced. This antibody could bind specifically to OspA antigen of several isolates of B. burgdorferi, but not to the non-Lyme disease bacteria such as T. pallidum and B. hermsii. Antibody MA-2C6 was pur...

surface [1,4]. Although the actual frequency of Lyme disease-associated glomerulonephritis in humans is unknown as yet, it is our sense that this is most probably an underdiagnosed situation. Lyme disease: the promise of Big Data, companion diagnostics and precision medicine

Lyme disease caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi has become a major worldwide epidemic. Recent studies based on Big Data registries show that >300,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year in the USA, and up to two-thirds of individuals infected with B. burgdorferi will fail conventional 30-year-old antibiotic therapy for Lyme disease. In addition, animal and human evidence...
