Listeriosis and Listeria monocytogenes in India

Human listeriosis, a dreaded disease of the west has surfaced in the last two decades in India, and there have been a series of reports on sporadic cases. There have been more than 20 outbreaks of listeriosis in different parts of the globe since 1981 that have been implicated to different types of food. And nearly all cases of listeriosis are food-borne. After the disturbance that it has caused in the west, the disease seems to have settled for the Indian terrain and its conditions. This article intends to review the status of Listeriosis cases in India and discuss the current focus in terms of Listeria research and clinical Listeriosis.
