Simultaneous Separation of Anionic, Nonionic, Cationic and Amphoteric Surfactants Using a Single HPLC Column

چکیده
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the preferred analytical technique for the separation and identification of surfactants in consumer products. Although many HPLC columns are available for surfactant analysis, none of these columns provide optimal selectivity for the analysis of anionic, nonionic, cationic, and amphoteric surfactants. This article describes an HPLC column, Acclaim Surfactant, a high-efficiency silica-based column specially designed for separating anionic, nonionic, cationic and amphoteric surfactants. This column offers ideal selectivity for different types of surfactants, excellent peak shapes, improved resolution of oligomers in ethoxylated surfactants, and the capability of retaining hydrotropes. Thus it can be used not only for quality assurance of surfactant raw materials, but also for the competitive analysis of a variety of surfactant-containing formulations.

Role of Surfactants in Nanotechnology and Their Applications
Surfactants are characterized by the essential features that we saw in sodium oleate. A surfactant molecule has a hydrophilic (water-loving) head and a long hydrophobic (water-hating or oil-loving) tail. For this reason, we often describe surfactants is being amphiphilic molecules they love everything. Surfactants can be categorized according to the charge present in the hydrophilic portion of ...

متن کاملSynthesis and Commercial Preparation of Food Emulsifiers
Food emulsifiers, more correctly referred to as surfactants, are molecules, which contain a nonpolar, and one or more polar regions. In general, nonpolar groups are aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic hydrocarbons. Polar functional groups contain heteroatoms such as oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur. As shown in Fig. 2.1, the polar functionality makes the emulsifier anionic, cationic, amphoteric, or n...
متن کاملInteraction of DPPC monolayers with soluble surfactants: electrostatic effects of membrane perturbants.
We studied the effects of four soluble surfactants on DPPC monolayers to elucidate the action of these membrane perturbants. The presence of nonionic N-9 and amphoteric C31G strongly affected the pure DPPC isotherm, while anionic SDS and cationic DTAB had little effect. The impact of surfactant on DPPC domain shape in the liquid condensed-liquid expanded coexistence region showed the opposite r...
