چکیده

We consider the problem of modelling the failure-time distribution, where failure is due to two distinct causes. One approach is to adopt a two-component mixture model where the components correspond to the two di€erent causes of failure. However, routine application of this approach with typical parametric forms for the component densities proves to be inadequate in modelling the time to a re-replacement operation or death after the initial replacement of the aortic valve in the heart by a prosthesis, such as a xenograft valve. Hence we consider modi®cations to the usual mixture model approach to handle situations where there exists a strong dependency between the failure times of the distinct causes. With these modi®cations, a suitable model is able to be provided for the distribution of the time to a re-replacement operation conditional on the age of the patient at the time of the initial replacement operation. The estimate so obtained by the probability that a patient of a given age will undergo a re-replacement operation provides a useful guide to heart surgeons on the type of valve to be used in view of the patient's age. Comparison of Random Survival Forests for Competing Risks and Regression Models in Determining Mortality Risk Factors in Breast Cancer Patients in Mahdieh Center, Hamedan, Iran

Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide. Patients with cancer may die due to disease progression or other types of events. These different event types are called competing risks. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the survival of patients with breast cancer using three different approaches: cause-specific hazards regression, subdistri...

Factors Affecting the Risk of Death in Patients with Rectal Cancer: An Analysis in the Presence of Competitive Risks

Background and Objectives: The incidence of rectal cancer is increasing in developing societies, especially in younger age groups. The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors affecting the survival of patients with rectal cancer in the presence of competing risks.   Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, the data of 121 patients with rectal cancer during 2001-2017 were studied. De...

Parametric Estimation in a Recurrent Competing Risks Model

A resource-efficient approach to making inferences about the distributional properties of the failure times in a competing risks setting is presented. Efficiency is gained by observing recurrences of the compet- ing risks over a random monitoring period. The resulting model is called the recurrent competing risks model (RCRM) and is coupled with two repair strategies whenever the system fails. ...

Semiparametric analysis of mixture regression models with competing risks data.

In the analysis of competing risks data, cumulative incidence function is a useful summary of the overall crude risk for a failure type of interest. Mixture regression modeling has served as a natural approach to performing covariate analysis based on this quantity. However, existing mixture regression methods with competing risks data either impose parametric assumptions on the conditional ris...
