Developing the Automated Zoning Procedure to Reconcile Incompatible Zoning Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper concerns the problem of matching incompatible zonal geographies, for example in the context of comparing census outputs over time. The automated zoning procedure (AZP) proposed by Openshaw (1977) is reviewed, and a population stress statistic proposed which may be used in an AZP algorithm in order to maximise the match between two zonal geographies. An implementation of this approach is described, and illustrated by reference to UK Census data.

Extending the automated zoning procedure to reconcile incompatible zoning systems
This paper concerns the problem of matching incompatible zonal geographies, for example in the context of comparing census outputs over time. The automated zoning procedure (AZP) proposed by Openshaw (1977) is reviewed and extended to permit its application to the intersection of two zonal systems. A population stress statistic is proposed which may be used in the extended AZP algorithm in orde...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of the “Zoning” Strategies for ADA Paratransit Services
ADA paratransit systems are dial-a-ride services providing public transportation to disabled customers. In large metropolitan areas, these services might adopt zoning strategies to simplify their management. The objective of this research is to provide a more in-depth evaluation and comparison between centralized and decentralized zoning strategies for the city of Houston, Texas, by developing ...
متن کاملA framework for enhancing spatial and temporal granularity in report-based health surveillance systems
BACKGROUND Current public concern over the spread of infectious diseases has underscored the importance of health surveillance systems for the speedy detection of disease outbreaks. Several international report-based monitoring systems have been developed, including GPHIN, Argus, HealthMap, and BioCaster. A vital feature of these report-based systems is the geo-temporal encoding of outbreak-rel...

In this paper we present an alternative strategy to define zoning for handwriting recog19 nition, which is based on nonsymmetrical perceptual zoning. The idea is to extract some knowledge from the confusion matrices in order to make the zoning process less 21 empirical. The feature set considered in this work is based on concavities/convexities deficiencies, which are obtained by labeling the b...
متن کاملCommunities on the Move: Pedestrian-Oriented Zoning as a Facilitator of Adult Active Travel to Work in the United States
BACKGROUND Communities across the United States have been reforming their zoning codes to create pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods with increased street connectivity, mixed use and higher density, open space, transportation infrastructure, and a traditional neighborhood structure. Zoning code reforms include new urbanist zoning such as the SmartCode, form-based codes, transects, transportation ...
