چکیده

2014 The influence of the Stark effect on the l distribution of excited states produced by electron capture from atomic hydrogen into slow fully stripped ions is studied The Stark effect is strong enough, in these monoelectronic systems, to preclude any relation between the final l distribution and the primary process of electron capture. The latter determines the m distribution through « geometrical » effects, which supports the utility of measuring the polarization of radiation emitted by decay of the excited states formed in the collision. State-Selective Electron Capture Studied for U90+ Ions in Collisions with Gaseous Targets

In relativistic collisions involving high-Z projectiles and heavy target atoms, non-radiative electron capture (NRC) is a very important charge exchange process [1], a process mediated by three-body interaction. In general, a precise theoretical treatment of this process is very difficult to achieve since the Coulomb field of the fast moving projectile leads to distortions of the atomic target ...

The role of atomic collisions in kinetic electron emission from Al surfaces by slow ions

We measured energy distributions of electrons emitted in the interaction of slow Kr and Na with Al surfaces. The data allow to correlate emission intensities with spectral signatures of electron excitation processes. Our results indicate that electron promotion processes leading to the excitation of Al target atoms plays the dominating role in kinetic electron emission from Al surfaces by slow ...

Positron production in crossed beams of bare uranium nuclei.

Positron creation in crossed-beam collisions of high-energy, fully stripped heavy ions is investigated within the coupled-channel formalism. In comparison with fixed-target collisions of highly stripped heavy-ion projectiles positron production probabilities are enhanced by more than one order of magnitude. The increase results from the possibility to excite electrons from the negative energy c...

Resonant electron capture by C60 ions at a metal surface with projected band gap

C+60 and C 2+ 60 ions are scattered under grazing incidence from an atomically clean and flat Be(0001) surface at keV energies. Distances for electron transfer are deduced from shifts of angular distributions for incident C+60 and C 2+ 60 projectiles, which reflect changes in the interaction potentials at the instants of electron transfers. These distances are consistent with classical over-the...
