چکیده

By WILLIAM H. CitosBY AN!) NAOMI R. BENJAMIN D URING the past. ten years the phenomenon of “autohemolysis” has been studied in several laboratories’4 and a few investigators have developed it as a met-hod to study the pathogenesis of hemolytic disease.54 The technic is fundamentally simple. Blood is incubated for a time and then the hemolysis which occurred (luring incubation is measured. \Vhen normal blood is incubated for 24 hours at 37 C., few of the red cells are destroyed. Butwhen spherocytosis is present a great deal of hemolysis occurs, especially if oxalate is used as the anticoagulant. In nocturnal hemogbobinuria oxalate prevents the hemolysis w-hich otherwise occurs in PNH blood with no anticoagulant.. The purpose of this report is to describe still another hemolyt.ic system, one that is found in the i)lood of some patients with leukemia, lymphonlata and other disseminated neoplastic

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia in chronic granulocytic leukemia.

A UTOIMMUNE HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA may complicate a wide variety of diseases, among which are infectious diseases, “collagen” diseases, benign tumors, malignant tumors, lymphomas and Hodgkin’s disease.1’2 The lymphoproliferative disorders, especially chronic lymphatic leukemia, have often been associated with abnormal immunologic mechanisms. The myeloproliferative disorders are rarely associated with...

Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia in cats referring to Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Tehran (2006-2007)

Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) is characterized by the destruction of erythrocytes or sometimes bone marrow erythroid precursors mediated by immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM), with or without complement (C 3). The main objectives of this study were to assess the laboratory test results of IMHA and to investigate its possible underlying causes in cats referring to the Veterinary Teaching Hosp...

Present status of spiculed red cells and their relationship to the discocyte-echinocyte transformation: a critical review.

A VARIETY OF RED CELLS with one or more spiny projections has been 1-1._ described and some of these spiculed cells have been associated with specific congenital or acquired hemolytic anemias. Of these, only sickle cells are well defined morphologically, etiologically, and pathogenically. Tear drop cells are sharply defined morphologically and have been associated most prominently with myelofib...

Pediatric B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia presenting with Paraneoplastic Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic demyelinating disease most often triggered by infection or immunization, though associations with malignancy and stem cell transplant have been described. We described the case of a four-year-old boy with new-onset neurological symptoms associated with ADEM, acute leukemia, and equivocal evidence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. He ...
