Medication-related Ocular Surface Disorders Among Glaucoma Patients
نویسنده
چکیده
LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Identify factors that contribute to ocular surface disorders among patients undergoing medical treatment for glaucoma. 2. Modify management to counter ocular surface disease in glaucoma patients. 3. Describe the main categories and clinical presentation of secondary glaucomas outside of the exfoliative and pigmentary types. 4. Describe treatment management strategies, and anticipated complications that may be involved, for these secondary glaucomas. EDITORS

Patient satisfaction with glaucoma therapy: reality or myth?
While safe and effective treatments for glaucoma exist, their effectiveness is compromised by poor compliance. Patients who have problems with their topical glaucoma medication are acknowledged to be at higher risk for poor compliance, frequent medication switching, and surgery. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess signs and symptoms of ocular surface disease (OSD) and the cytomorphological changes of ocular surface in glaucoma patients using preserved antiglaucoma drops. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 109 participants (79 patients with topical medication and 30 untreated controls) completed the Ocular Surface Diseases Index (OSDI) questionnaire and un...

متن کاملOcular Surface Alterations and Topical Antiglaucomatous Therapy: A Review
Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) is prevalent among medically treated patients with glaucoma. This is basically related to three key-points: OSD and glaucoma are both prevalent in elderly and are common comorbidities in the same patient; the role of the active ingredient of the medical antiglaucomatous therapy; the role of the preservative agent of this medical therapy. Considering the actual state...
متن کاملOcular lubricant use in medically and surgically treated glaucoma: a retrospective longitudinal analysis
BACKGROUND Chronic use of intraocular pressure-lowering medications is associated with ocular surface disease (OSD). In this study, we assess the incidence of topical lubricant use as a surrogate marker for underlying OSD, in medically and surgically treated glaucoma patients. METHODS Retrospective chart review was performed for newly diagnosed glaucoma patients who were started on topical me...
