چکیده

Experimental evidence indicates that non-monetary considerations influence subjects’ allocation behavior. We investigate the impact of a multigeneration setup on allocation behavior. We modify the traditional dictator game by introducing 3 generations A, B and C. A takes an arbitrary share of a pie and passes the rest to B. B divides the rest of the pie between her and C. We find that this intergenerational dictator game increases generosity with respect to comparable traditional dictator games. Introducing a social interaction between A and B on the one hand and B and C on the other hand leads to a higher share of passed money. If it is unclear to B if a subject passed the share or if the passed share was generated by a random process, B becomes more parsimonious. In all treatments B reciprocates for A’s behavior in his decision upon the share which C receives. JEL classification: A13; C71; C72; C78; C91; D62; D63; D64; J71; Q30

The importance of moral reflection and self-reported data in a dictator game with production

This paper studies how individual behavior is affected by moral reflection in a dictator game with production, and the informational value of self-reported data on fairness. We find that making individuals reflect on fairness before they play the dictator game has a moderate effect on the weight attached to fairness in distributive choices, and a strong effect on what people consider fair. Furt...

Is it all about the self? The effect of self-control depletion on ultimatum game proposers

In the ultimatum-game, as in many real-life social exchange situations, the selfish motive to maximize own gains conflicts with fairness preferences. In the present study we manipulated the availability of cognitive-control resources for ultimatum-game proposers to test whether preference for fairness is a deliberative cognitive-controlled act or an automatic act. In two experiments we found th...
