چکیده
For a solution of the visual correspondence problem we have modified the Self Organizing Map (SOM) to map image planes onto another in a neighborhoodand feature-preserving way. We have investigated the convergence speed of this SOM and Dynamic Link Matching (DLM) on a benchmark problem for the solution of which both algorithms are good candidates. We show that even after careful parameter adjustment the SOM needs a large number of simple update steps and DLM a small number of complicated ones. The results are consistent with an exponential vs. polynomial scaling behavior with increased pattern size. Finally, we present and motivate a rule for adjusting the parameters of DLM for all problem sizes, which we could not find for SOM. q 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

This article gives an overview of the different functional brain imaging methods, the kinds of questions these methods try to address and some of the questions associated with functional neuroimaging data for which neural modeling must be employed to provide reasonable answers. q 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
متن کاملA network for recursive extraction of canonical coordinates
A network structure for canonical coordinate decomposition is presented. The network consists of two single-layer linear subnetworks that together extract the canonical coordinates of two data channels. The connection weights of the networks are trained by a stochastic gradient descent learning algorithm. Each subnetwork features a hierarchical set of lateral connections among its outputs. The ...

This paper presents our approach towards realizing a robot which can bootstrap itself towards higher complexity through embodied interaction dynamics with the environment including other agents. First, the elements of interaction dynamics are extracted from conceptual analysis of embodied interaction and its emergence, especially of behavioral imitation. Then three case studies are made, presen...
متن کاملExplanation of the "virtual input" phenomenon
We write this letter to comment on the "virtual input" phenomenon reported by Thaler (Neural Networks, 8(1) (1995) 55-65). The author attributed the phenomenon to the network's ability to perform pattern classification and completion, and reported that pruning probability affects the number of virtual inputs observed. Our independent study of Thaler's results, however, reveals a simpler explana...
