Impulse Photothermal Evaluation of Materials via Frequency Modulated Optical Reflectance I: Theory
نویسنده
چکیده
Recently, laser induced thermal wave based technologies have provided a powerful class of techniques for the evaluation of solid state materials [1,2). Through the use of tightly focussed optical beams modulated at high frequencies, it has been possible to both generate and interrogate highly localized thermal wave phenomena in materials with spatial resolutions approaching 1 J.1m [2]. The unique capability for thermal depth profiling of optically opaque materials is possible with surface thermal wave measurements because of the rather obvious relationship between the vertical depth of a buried feature and the transit time of thermal energy to the sample surface.

Theoretical, experimental, and computational aspects of optical property determination of turbid media by using frequency-domain laser infrared photothermal radiometry.
In this work, the optical and thermal properties of tissuelike materials are measured by using frequency-domain infrared photothermal radiometry. This technique is better suited for quantitative multiparameter optical measurements than the widely used pulsed-laser photothermal radiometry (PPTR) because of the availability of two independent signal channels, amplitude and phase, and the superior...

In this paper we present a detailed theoretical treatment of the 3-D temperature distribution induced by laser beam in photothermal displacement spectroscopy. We assume that a solid sample, which is deposited on a substrate and is in contact with a fluid, is irradiated by an intensity modulated cw laser source. By using a technique based on Greens function and integral transformations we find...
متن کاملOptical Measurement of Thermal Conductivity Using Fiber Aligned Frequency Domain Thermoreflectance
Fiber aligned frequency domain thermoreflectance (FAFDTR) is a simple noncontact optical technique for accurately measuring the thermal conductivity of thin films and bulk samples for a wide range of materials, including electrically conducting samples. FAFDTR is a single-sided measurement that requires minimal sample preparation and no microfabrication. Like existing thermoreflectance techniqu...
متن کاملAbsorption of low-loss optical materials measured at 1064 nm by a position-modulated collinear photothermal detection technique.
A collinear photothermal detection bench is described that makes use of a position-modulated heating source instead of the classic power-modulated source. This new modulation scheme increases by almost a factor 2 the sensitivity of a standard mirage bench. This bench is then used to measure the absorption coefficient of OH-free synthetic fused silica at 1064 nm in the parts per 10(6) range, whi...
متن کاملPhotothermal excitation of microcantilevers in liquids
We report the selective excitation of the flexural modes of microcantilevers in aqueous solutions, by applying the photothermal excitation technique. The experiments show that a particular vibration mode can be efficiently excited by focusing the intensity-modulated laser beam on regions of high curvature of the vibration shape. In addition, the resulting resonant peaks in liquid appear distort...
