A Systems Theory Approach to the Synthesis of Minimum Noise Phase-Insensitive Quantum Amplifiers

چکیده
We present a systems theory approach to the proof of a result bounding the required level of added quantum noise in a phase-insensitive quantum amplifier. We also present a synthesis procedure for constructing a quantum optical phaseinsensitive quantum amplifier which adds the minimum level of quantum noise and achieves a required gain and bandwidth. This synthesis procedure is based on a singularly perturbed quantum system and leads to an amplifier involving two squeezers and two beamsplitters.

A-New-Closed-form-Mathematical-Approach-to-Achieve Minimum Phase Noise in Frequency Synthesizers
The aim of this paper is to minimize output phase noise for the pure signal synthesis in the frequency synthesizers. For this purpose, first, an exact mathematical model of phase locked loop (PLL) based frequency synthesizer is described and analyzed. Then, an exact closed-form formula in terms of synthesizer bandwidth and total output phase noise is extracted. Based on this formula, the phase ...
متن کاملRaman and loss induced quantum noise in depleted fiber optical parametric amplifiers.
We present a semi-classical approach for predicting the quantum noise properties of fiber optical parametric amplifiers. The unavoidable contributors of noise, vacuum fluctuations, loss-induced noise, and spontaneous Raman scattering, are included in the analysis of both phase-insensitive and phase-sensitive amplifiers. We show that the model agrees with earlier fully quantum approaches in the ...
متن کاملNoiseless phase quadrature amplification via electro-optic feed-forward
The transmission of small optical signals carried by coherent light is fraught with difficulty. Attenuation of the optical power causes degradation of the signal-to-noise ratio as the signal recedes into the quantum noise of the beam. A simple method to rectify this problem would be to amplify the signal. However this is not a trivial exercise as phase insensitive amplifiers, such as laser ampl...
متن کاملOptical Transmission Systems Based on Phase-Sensitive Amplifiers
The capacity and reach of today’s long-haul fiber optical communication systems is limited by amplifier noise and fiber nonlinearities. Conventional, phase-insensitive amplifiers (PIAs), have a quantum limited noise figure (NF) of 3 dB at high gain, meaning that with a shot-noise limited input signal the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is degraded by at least 3 dB. Phase-sensitive amplifiers (PSAs)...
متن کاملRaman-noise induced noise-figure limit for χ parametric amplifiers
The non-zero response time of the Kerr (χ) nonlinearity determines the quantum-limited noise figure of χ parametric amplifiers. This non-zero response time of the nonlinearity requires coupling of the parametric amplification process to a molecular-vibration phonon bath, causing the addition of excess noise through Raman gain or loss at temperatures above 0K. The effect of this excess noise on ...
