چکیده

This series case report aimed to elucidate the underlying pathology and outcomes of lateral medullary infarction (LMI) using perfusion weighted imaging (PWI). Four patients were diagnosed with LMI based on high-field diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI-DWI) and PWI. The national institutes of health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores were recorded on days 1, 7, and 30, and the Barthel index was assessed on days 7 and 30. Three patients exhibited relative regional hypoperfusion of medullary lesion in the perfusion maps. Two cases exhibited ipsilateral hypoperfusion in the inferior cerebellum, whereas one patient exhibited a relatively regional hyperperfusion in the medulla oblongata. The LMI patients with a high NIHSS score and low Barthel index on days 7 and 30 exhibited regional hypoperfusion. This report of 4 LMI cases provides preliminary evidence that regional hypoperfusion may contribute to worse outcomes in LMI.

Subjective Visual Vertical and Horizontal Abnormalities in a Patient with Lateral Medullary Syndrome-A Case Report

Introduction: Evaluation of persistent vertigo in post infarct patients is very important as the management depends on whether the cause is purely of central origin or due to associated vestibular affliction.   Case Report: A patient with left sided dorsolateral medullary syndrome and persistent vestibular symptoms was evaluated. Vestibular test battery showed abnormal smooth pursuit, bilateral...

Translation of Methdology used in Human Myocardial Imaging to a Sheep Model of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Background: Pre-clinical investigation of stem cells for repairing damaged myocardium predominantly used rodents, however large animals have cardiac circulation closely resembling the human heart. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether SPECT/CT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) could be used for assessing sheep myocardium following an acute myocardial infarction (MI) and response to int...

Effects of depression on myocardial perfusion scintigraphy [Persian]

Introduction: The relationship between depression and coronary artery disease is well established; however assessment of this relationship using functional and semi-quantitative imaging (myocardial perfusion scintigraphy) was lacking. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the severity of depression and the severity of myocardial perfusion abno...

Diffusion Weighted Imaging Findings in the Acute Lateral Medullary Infarction

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Negative findings on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) does not exclude the possibility of brainstem infarction, particularly in the acute stage of medullary lesion. Our aim was to investigate the false-negative rate of DWI in patients with acute lateral medullary infarction. METHODS We applied DWI to 26 patients with a clinical diagnosis of lateral medullary infarction ...

Magnetic resonance imaging in Wallenberg's lateral medullary syndrome.

Four patients with a clinical diagnosis of Wallenberg's lateral medullary syndrome were studied with both Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and cranial Computed Tomography (CT). Using transverse images and both T1 and T2--weighted sequences, MRI demonstrated a medullary infarction not seen on CT in all four cases. MRI also demonstrated a coexisting cerebellar infarction in three cases which was ...
