Some Illumination Models for Industrial Applications of Photometric Stereo

چکیده
Among the possible sources of error in 3D-reconstruction using the photometric stereo technique, lighting modelling is often neglected, though it can create a dramatic large-scale bias. In this paper, after recalling the physical definition of a primary Lambertian source (isotropic lightings), we show how to derive a lighting model for several real-world scenarios, including directional lightings, nearby sources and extended planar illuminants. Finally, we show how to calibrate general spatially-varying lightings within a plane, in the case where explicitely modelling the lightings would be tedious.

An RGBN Benchmark
A variety of algorithms in both computer vision and graphics use datasets of an object or scene captured with fixed camera but varying illumination. Evaluating these algorithms is frequently challenging because of the lack of ground truth on the one hand, and insufficiently realistic and varied synthetic datasets on the other. In this work, we present a synthetic benchmark for applications such...
متن کاملPhotometric Stereo for 3D Face Reconstruction Using Non Linear Illumination Models
Face recognition in presence of illumination changes, variant pose and different facial expressions is a challenging problem. In this paper, a method for 3D face reconstruction using photometric stereo and without knowing the illumination directions and facial expression is proposed in order to achieve improvement in face recognition. A dimensionality reduction method was introduced to represen...
متن کاملMaking “ The Parthenon ”
In this paper we overview the technology and production processes used to create “The Parthenon”, a short computer animation that visually reunites the Parthenon and its sculptural decorations, separated since the beginning of the 19th century. The film used combinations of time-of-flight laser scanning, structured light scanning, photometric stereo, inverse global illumination, photogrammetric...
متن کاملTime-Lapse Photometric Stereo and Applications
This paper presents a technique to recover geometry from time-lapse sequences of outdoor scenes. We build upon photometric stereo techniques to recover approximate shadowing, shading and normal components allowing us to alter the material and normals of the scene. Previous work in analyzing such images has faced two fundamental difficulties: 1. the illumination in outdoor images consists of tim...
متن کاملIllumination Invariant Face Recognition Using Photometric Stereo
In this paper, we propose an elegant approach for illumination invariant face recognition based on the photometric stereo technique. The basic idea is to reconstruct the surface normal and the albedo of a face using photometric stereo images, and then use them as the illumination independent model of the face. And, we have investigated the optimal light source directions for accurate surface sh...
