چکیده

Introduction: Supine patient positioning in conjunction with twoincision minimally invasive surgery (MIS-2 incision) total hip arthroplasty (THA) increases difficulty of accurate and repeatable cup orientation in accordance with pre-operative planning. Investigators have suggested advantages of utilizing computer assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS) to successfully eliminate extreme outlying acetabular shell placement positions (Saxler et al., 2004). The current study examines the effects of CAOS on accuracy and consistency of acetabular cup placement in supine position MIS-2 THA. The authors hypothesize that improved accuracy of cadaver cup placement will be observed with the use of CAOS in comparison to traditional mechanical guides described for this MIS-2 THA in the supine patient position, with actual cup orientation assessed by post-implantation computed tomography (CT) study.

Does Robotic-Assisted Computer Navigation Affect Acetabular Cup Positioning in Total Hip Arthroplasty in the Obese Patient? A Comparison Study.

Obese populations present challenges for acetabular cup placement during total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study examines the accuracy of acetabular cup inclination and version in the obese patient with robotic-assisted computer navigation. A total of 105 patients underwent robotic-assisted computer navigation THA with a posterior approach. Groups were divided on body mass index (BMI, kg/m(2))...

Accuracy of acetabular cup positioning using imageless navigation

BACKGROUND Correct placement of the acetabular cup is a crucial step in total hip replacement to achieve a satisfactory result and remains a challenge with free-hand techniques. Imageless navigation may provide a viable alternative to free-hand technique and improve placement significantly. The purpose of this project was to assess and validate intra-operative placement values for both inclinat...

Computer - Assisted Navigation for Acetabular Cup Placement : a Single Image Guiding System

Incorrect angular placement of the acetabular cup in total hip replacement induces femoral head dislocation, osteolysis, and liner wearing. Some computer-assisted navigation systems to aid acetabular cup placement have been developed in the past decade, but these are not used extensively due to their expense. In this study, a novel algorithm to determine the positions of data points in three-di...

Accuracy of Component Positioning in 2330 Total Hip Arthroplasties: A Comparative Analysis by Surgical Technique and Mode of Guidance

Lewinnek et al described a safe zone of acetabular component placement in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) to reduce complications. This safe zone is between 10-30 degrees of version and 30-50 degrees of inclination 1 . Callanan et al. reports only 53% of acetabular cups were within Lewinnek’s Safe Zone of optimal cup placement (62% within the abduction safe zone, 79% within the version safe zone)....

A new mini-navigation tool allows accurate component placement during anterior total hip arthroplasty

Introduction Computer-assisted navigation systems have been explored in total hip arthroplasty (THA) to improve component positioning. While these systems traditionally rely on anterior pelvic plane registration, variances in soft tissue thickness overlying anatomical landmarks can lead to registration error, and the supine coronal plane has instead been proposed. The purpose of this study was ...
