چکیده

Background The differentiation of atherosclerotic plaque components in the carotid arteries with MRI has been successfully demonstrated. The detection of plaque calcification by MRI, however has been challenging. In addition, few studies have evaluated the ability of MRI to characterize atherosclerotic plaques in human coronary arteries (1). Here we use a combination of T1, T2 and ultrashort TE (UTE) MRI to evaluate atherosclerotic plaques in fixed post-mortem human coronary arteries. We hypothesized that the addition of UTE to T1and T2 weighted MRI would allow both calcified and lipid rich plaques to be accurately detected and distinguished from one another.

Effect of Helicobacter pylori DNA in human atherosclerotic plaques

Introduction: A number of studies have demonstrated that infectious mico organisms like helicobacter pylori may play a role in the process of atherosclerosis. We, here, aimed to investigate the effect of Helicobacter pylori DNA in atherosclerotic plaques in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 85 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CAB...

The Relationship Between Morphology of Lumbar Disc Herniation and MRI Changes in Adjacent Vertebral Bodies

Background: Intervertebral disc herniation has two common types, extrusion and protrusion, which may affect the adjacent vertebrae. In addition, it is associated with significant signal changes in T1 MRI (short TR/TE) and T2 MRI (long TR/TE).   Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional analytic one, in which sampling was performed retrospectively. Cases were randomly selected from the pa...

Multiecho Ultrashort TE (UTE) Imaging and T2* Mapping of Knee Cartilage

INTRODUCTION Magnetic resonance imaging has been used widely for the detection of cartilage lesions (1, 2). In addition to quantifying changes in cartilage morphology, such as thickness and volume, extensive studies have been performed on T1 and T2 quantification which reflect changes in biochemical composition of cartilage with early osteoarthritis (OA) (3-5). Short TE projection reconstructio...

In vivo 16-slice, multidetector-row computed tomography for the assessment of experimental atherosclerosis: comparison with magnetic resonance imaging and histopathology.

BACKGROUND Noninvasive imaging can detect early atherosclerotic disease. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), because of its excellent spatial resolution, is already established as a tool for plaque characterization. Sixteen-slice, multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) was recently introduced into the field of cardiac imaging, with promising results for noninvasive angiography. We compared ...

Classification of human carotid atherosclerotic lesions with in vivo multicontrast magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND Recent studies demonstrated that in vivo and ex vivo MRI can characterize the components of the carotid atherosclerotic plaque, such as fibrous tissue, lipid/necrotic core, calcium, hemorrhage, and thrombus. The purpose of this study was to determine whether in vivo high-resolution multicontrast MRI could accurately classify human carotid atherosclerotic plaque according to the Ameri...
