Flattening of a deformable sphere by a rigid sphere during transient thermo-mechanical contact

چکیده
A finite element model is developed to study the transient thermo-mechanical contact between a rigid sphere and an elastic–plastic sphere. Interference and tangential displacement are applied to the rigid sphere while the elastic–plastic sphere is stationary. The radius of the rigid sphere is larger than that of the elastic–plastic sphere to model flattening. Universal solutions are obtained for the maximum contact force, the maximum contact area, the maximum residual interference, and the maximum temperature rise independent of sphere radius, material properties and loading parameters. The effects of various parameters (sphere radius, interference, coefficient of friction, sliding velocity and material properties) on the contact characteristics of the deformable sphere are discussed. & 2013 Elsevier B.V. Electro-magneto-thermo-mechanical Behaviors of a Radially Polarized FGPM Thick Hollow Sphere
In this study an analytical method is developed to obtain the response of electro-magneto-thermo-elastic stress and perturbation of a magnetic field vector for a thick-walled spherical functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM). The hollow sphere, which is placed in a uniform magnetic field, is subjected to a temperature gradient, inner and outer pressures and a constant electric potenti...

Thermo-elastic analysis of a functionally graded hollow sphere is carried out and numerical solutions of displacement, stress and thermal fields are obtained using the Polynomial differential quadrature (PDQ) method. Material properties are assumed to be graded in the radial direction according to a power law function, ho...

In this paper a transient free convection flow around a sphere with variable surface temperature and embedded in a porous medium has been considered. The temperature of the sphere is suddenly raised and subsequently maintained at values that varies with position on surface. The method of asymptotic expansions is applied for small Rayleigh numbers and then a finite-difference scheme is used to s...
متن کاملDynamic Coupled Thermo-Viscoelasticity of a Spherical Hollow Domain
The generalized coupled thermo-viscoelasticity of hollow sphere subjected to thermal symmetric shock load is presented in this paper. To overcome the infinite speed of thermal wave propagation, the Lord-Shulman theory is considered. Two coupled equations, namely, the radial equation of motion and the energy equation of a hollow sphere are obtained in dimensionless form. Resulting equations are ...

The present study considers an elastic-plastic contact analysis during loading-unloading of a deformable sphere with a rigid flat using finite element method. The effect of strain hardening on the contact behavior of a nonadhesive frictionless elastic-plastic contact is analyzed using commercial finite element software ANSYS. To study the strain hardening effect different values of tangent modu...
