Cosmogenic 3 He and 10 Be chronologies of the late Pinedale northern Yellowstone ice cap , Montana , USA

چکیده
Cosmogenic 3He and 10Be ages measured on surface boulders from the moraine sequence deposited by the northern outlet glacier of the Yellowstone ice cap indicate that the outlet glacier reached its terminal position at 16.5 6 0.4 3He ka and 16.2 6 0.3 10Be ka, respectively. Concordance of these ages supports the scaled production rates used for 3He (118.6 6 6.6 atoms · g21 · yr21) and 10Be (5.1 6 0.3 atoms · g21 · yr21) (62s at high latitudes at sea level). Two recessional moraines upvalley from the terminal moraine have mean ages of 15.7 6 0.5 10Be ka and 14.0 6 0.4 10Be ka, respectively, and a late-glacial flood bar was deposited at 13.7 6 0.5 10Be ka. These cosmogenic chronologies identify a late Pinedale glacial maximum in northern Yellowstone that is significantly younger than previously thought, and they suggest deglaciation of the Yellowstone plateau by ;14 10Be ka.

Reconstructing the paleoglaciation of the Tibetan Plateau is critical to understanding linkages between regional climate changes and global climate changes, and herewe focus on the glacial history of the Shaluli Shan, an area of the southeastern Tibetan Plateau that receives much of its precipitation from monsoon flow. Based on field investigation, geomorphological mapping, and 10Be exposure da...

Thirty-two cosmogenic 36Cl surface exposure ages constrain the timing of two late Pleistocene glacial advances in the western Ahklun Mountains, southwestern Alaska. Boulders were sampled from one early Wisconsin (sensu lato) and six late Wisconsin moraines deposited by ice-cap outlet glaciers and local alpine glaciers. Four moraine boulders deposited during an extensive early Wisconsin ice-cap ...

A high-resolution record of pollen, charcoal, diatom, and lithologic data from Dailey Lake in southwestern Montana describes postglacial terrestrial and limnologic development from ice retreat ca. 16,000 cal yr BP through the early Holocene. Following deglaciation, the landscape surrounding Dailey Lake was sparsely vegetated, and erosional input into the lake was high. As summer insolation incr...
