چکیده

A 60-year-old man with a history of myelofibrosis presented with breathing difficulty. Although echocardiography, which had been performed eight months previously, revealed normal findings (Picture 1A), the left ventricular apical cavity was found to be covered with an abnormal structure (Picture 1B, asterisk). A diagnosis of Löffler’s endocarditis was made based on the patient’s peripheral eosinophil count (11,934 cells/μL). The initiation of medical therapy, which included heparin, warfarin, antiplatelet agents, steroids, and immunosuppressants, resulted in little improvement. Followup echocardiography, performed one month later, showed spaces between the thrombi and the left ventricular endocar-

Clinical, haemodynamic, and angiographic findings in Löffler's eosinophilic endocarditis.

Detailed haemodynamic and angiographic findings in Löffler's endocarditis are presented for the first time in a report of 3 cases of this rare disease. In 2 of the cases the right ventricular cavity was obliterated; in one of them this was shown by biopsy to be caused by organized thrombus. In the third case, there was progressive mitral regurgitation.

Endomyocardial firbrosis and Löffler's endocarditis parietalis fibroplastica.

The morphological features of endomyocardial fibrosis and Löffler's endocarditis are described. Sixteen cases of the chronic stage of Löffler's endocarditis were compared with pathological material of thirty-two patients with endomyocardial fibrosis. No morphological differences were noted. It is suggested that endomyocardial fibrosis and LOffler's endocarditis are part of the same disease spec...

Acute necrotising eosinophilic myocarditis.

Löffler's endocarditis is a recognised complication of diseases associated with eosinophilia. Eosinophilic heart disease is usually chronic, but there is a rare acute variety. Three patients with an unusual form of eosinophilic heart disease characterised by acute necrotising eosinophilic myocarditis after a possible initial viral infection and underlying allergic diathesis are reported. In con...

Pathological aspects of endomyocardial fibrosis.

The studies leading up to the unitarian concept suggesting that endomyocardial fibrosis, described in the tropics, and Löffler's endocarditis parietalis fibroplastica (Löffler's endomyocardial disease), described in the temperate zone, belong to the same disease spectrum are detailed. Evidence that the eosinophil is involved in the pathogenesis of endomyocardial diseases, irrespective of the ge...
