چکیده

The tool switching problem with non-uniform tool sizes is considered in this paper for the ® rst time in a dynamic (online) environment. We develop three heuristics, designed for various assumptions with respect to the randomness of the process; the heuristics are based on the insight and experience that we obtained from the static problem with nonuniform tool sizes. Our computational experiments which examined various test problems with di€ erent underlying assumptions indicate that our heuristics are performingwell, that is, they are reasonably close to the static solution and perform much better than a random solution.

The tool switching problem revisited

In this note we study the complexity of the tool switching problem with non-uniform tool sizes. More specifically, we consider the problem where the job sequence is given as part of the input. We show that the resulting tooling problem is strongly NP-complete, even in case of unit loading and unloading costs. However, we show that if the capacity of the tool magazine is also given as part of th...

On the Randomized Competitive Ratio of Reordering Buffer Management with Non-Uniform Costs

Reordering buffer management (RBM) is an elegant theoretical model that captures the tradeoff between buffer size and switching costs for a variety of reordering/sequencing problems. In this problem, colored items arrive over time, and are placed in a buffer of size k. When the buffer becomes full, an item must be removed from the buffer. A penalty cost is incurred each time the sequence of rem...

Strategy Switching in the Stabilization of Unstable Dynamics

In order to understand mechanisms of strategy switching in the stabilization of unstable dynamics, this work investigates how human subjects learn to become skilled users of an underactuated bimanual tool in an unstable environment. The tool, which consists of a mass and two hand-held non-linear springs, is affected by a saddle-like force-field. The non-linearity of the springs allows the users...

Effect of Tool Shoulder and Pin Cone Angles in Friction Stir Welding using Non-circular Tool Pin

In friction stir welding frictional heat is generated by the rotating tool, sliding over the stationary plate along the weld centre. Tool being the only source of heat producing member, its geometrical design influences the heat generation rate. In this present work, effects of variation in tool shoulder and tool pin taper angles on thermal history during joining are analysed. Tools with triang...

In silico prediction of anticancer peptides by TRAINER tool

Cancer is one of the causes of death in the world. Several treatment methods exist against cancer cells such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Since traditional methods have side effects on normal cells and are expensive, identification and developing a new method to cancer therapy is very important. Antimicrobial peptides, present in a wide variety of organisms, such as plants, amphibians and ...
