Trypanosoma cruzi: sensitivity of the polymerase chain reaction for detecting the parasite in the blood of mice infected with different clonal genotypes.
نویسندگان
چکیده
The polymerase chain reaction showed high sensitivity for detecting Trypanosoma cruzi in the blood of mice, independent of clonal genotype (19, 20-T. cruzi I; 32, 39-T. cruzi II) or phase of the infection (acute or chronic).

Usefulness of the polymerase chain reaction for monitoring cure of mice infected with different Trypanosoma cruzi clonal genotypes following treatment with benznidazole.
The capacity of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the DNA of Trypanosoma cruzi was evaluated in 90 blood samples from BALB/c mice infected with T. cruzi cloned stocks of genotypes 19 and 20 (T. cruzi I) and 39 and 32 (T. cruzi II), and treated with benznidazole. The results from the fresh blood examination, hemoculture, and ELISA allowed to group the treated animals into: cured (TC)...
متن کاملTiming of expression of inflammatory mediators in skeletal muscles from mice acutely infected with the RA strain of Trypanosoma cruzi.
OBJECTIVE Chagas' disease is caused by persistent Trypanosoma cruzi infection in muscle cells that ultimately results in chronic inflammation and tissue destruction. The goal of this study was to determine the expression of different chemokines and their receptors, as well as proinflammatory cytokines and inducible nitric oxide synthase, in muscles from mice acutely infected with T. cruzi. ME...
متن کاملCan sexual transmission support the enzootic cycle of Trypanosoma cruzi?
BACKGROUND Trypanosoma cruzi circulates in sylvatic habitats, mainly through blood-feeding triatomines, although other routes also contribute to its dispersion. Sexual transmission of T. cruzi is an understudied topic, especially among wild mammals. Because of the difficulties inherent to field work, experimentally infected mice are frequently used to evaluate the transmission of T. cruzi. OB...
متن کاملSelection of Trypanosoma cruzi clonal genotypes (clonet 20 and 39) isolated from Bolivian triatomines following subculture in liquid medium.
Previous studies showed that two groups of Trypanosoma cruzi clonal genotypes named clonet 20 and clonet 39 were predominant in Triatoma infestans, the unique vector of Chagas disease in Bolivia. These groups of clones correspond to distinct genetic clusters. These clonets were detected in T. infestans and Rhodnius pictipes fecal samples before isolation and after culture by kDNA PCR (polymeras...
متن کاملCongenital Chagas disease: an update
Congenital infection with Trypanosoma cruzi is a global problem, occurring on average in 5% of children born from chronically infected mothers in endemic areas, with variations depending on the region. This presentation aims to focus on and update epidemiological data, research methods, involved factors, control strategy and possible prevention of congenital infection with T. cruzi. Considering...
