Characterization of the Dendritic Microstructure of Investment Cast Alloy 718
نویسنده
چکیده
The as-cast alloy 718 shows a multiphasic structure which consists of dendrites, carbides and Laves phases. The amount, size, shape, and dispersion of these phases affect the properties and the processing which follows, This structure was characterized by measurements of volume fraction, size, dispersion, and shape factor of carbide and Laves phases. Secondary arm spacing and Vickers hardness were also measured i.n the as-cast condition. All the above measurements were carried out on two different sized castings which had different cooling conditions, Compositional analysis of the phases in the castings concerned are clearly linked to solidification behavior ofthe alloy. These values were statistically analyzed to distinguish the effects of the casting conditions. Superalloys 718,6;!5,706 and Various Derivatives Edited by E.A. Effect of Mold Preheating on the Microstructure of the Investment Cast Astm F-75 Implant Alloy
The ASTM F-75 (Co-28%Cr-6%Mo) is widely used as a biocompatible alloy in medicinefor manufacturing implants. In this study, effect of mold preheating on the as-cast microstructure of thealloy was investigated using the solid investment casting process. Several mold preheating temperaturesof 550, 700, 850 and 1000 °C were selected at the same melt superheat. The samples were characterizedby opti...

A variety of cast pyrometR 718 alloy microstructures result from processing of different diameters of industrial scale ingots for producing superalloy forgings used in aircraft turbine engine applications. The hot workability of these cast alloys will significantly depend on the cast microstructure. The current study is focussed on understanding the evolution of the cast microstructure during V...

Effects of different amounts of lead (Pb) and tin (Sn) on microstructure and tensile properties of the AZ91 alloy were studied. The results presented that the microstructure of AZ91 alloy is consisted the α-Mg phase and semi-continuous network of β-Mg17Al12 intermetallics. For the as-cast AZ91 alloy, the average grain siz and the β phase volume fraction were 96.2 µm and of 25.3%, respectively. ...
متن کاملEffects of Magnesium on Niobium Segregation and Impact Toughness in Cast Alloy 718
A program has been conducted on the effects of Mg in cast alloy 718. The results show that small amounts of Mg improves impact toughness and decreases Nb segregation by decreasing secondary dendrite arm spacing which results in less and smaller interdendritic Laves and MC eutectics. Small amounts of Mg produce a more spheroidal as well as a more dispersive MC phase. Impact toughness was found t...
