Wind Actions and Responses of Steel Chimneys

چکیده

Understanding some of the basic wind engineering concepts helps one understand the chimney’s response. The circular cross section of the steel chimney characteristically provides aerodynamic lift perpendicular to the wind direction. Knowing how to predict and prevent these adverse responses is of critical importance to steel chimney design. I. STATIC WIND FORCES The force exerted by wind varies with the wind speed and its associated turbulence. Turbulence is affected by metrological factors, temperature and terrain. An anemometer is used to measure the wind speed and its direction. Turbulence cannot be so easily measured but its effects must be considered. ATMOSPHERIC BOUNDARY LAYER Changes in temperature and pressure near the earth’s surface causes air to move across the earth’s surface. This movement exerts a horizontal drag force which retards the air flow. It is this force that we consider wind force. ANEMOMETER DATA A spinning anemometer magnetically induces a voltage that is proportional to the wind speed.

Acrosswind Response of Reinforced Concrete Chimneys

The acrosswind response of isolated reinfe~c~d concrete chimneys of circular cross-section is studied using wind tunnel tests, full-scale measureme,~ts and response predictions based on semi-empirical methods. Three chimneys with available full-scale response observations were selected for this study to compare their measured and predicted responses. The wind tunnel experiments involved measure...

پهنه‎بندی غلظت مس و بررسی هم‌بستگی pH و EC با عنصر مس در خاک‎های مجتمع مس سرچشمه

Copper is considered as one of the most important nutrient elements for plants. If its contents are concentrated higher than the standard value it can be considered as a pollutant element. The content of absorbable copper in the area around Sarcheshmeh copper mine can be significantly high. In this study, samples of soil were collected in summer through a particular sampling method with chimney...

Performance Evaluation of Viscoelastic and Friction Passive Damping System in Steel Structures

Additional dampers are employed in order to decrease the dynamic response of structure against the earthquake and wind loading recently. In this study, two types of systems related to waste of inactive energy, i.e. frictional damper which is categorized in dampers dependent on movement and viscoelastic damper which is categorized in dampers dependent on velocity, in making steel structures resi...

Use of Steel Manufacturing Slag (Foulad Mobarake Co.) as Mulch to Stabilize Wind Eroded Sediment Case Study: Soils in East of Isfahan

This research was performed at the Natural Resources Department Research Farm of Isfahan University of Technology to investigate the effect of slag mulch on the amount of wind erosion and its threshold velocity using a wind tunnel. Soil samples from the study area “segzy plan” in the East area of Isfahan were placed in 100 by 30 cm trays to a depth of 3 cm. Four levels of coverage of slag: 25, ...
