چکیده

In this work, we analyze three available domain decomposition methods. We also establish the convergence conditions. The theoretical analysis provides an interval in which a relaxation parameter has to be chosen in order to achieve convergence. Moreover, it allows the selection of the relaxation parameter so that convergence is achieved with the minimum number of iterations. Several example problems are given for elaboration. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Updating finite element model using frequency domain decomposition method and bees algorithm

The following study deals with the updating the finite element model of structures using the operational modal analysis. The updating process uses an evolutionary optimization algorithm, namely bees algorithm which applies instinctive behavior of honeybees for finding food sources. To determine the uncertain updated parameters such as geometry and material properties of the structure, local and...

Evaluation of Fracture Parameters by Coupling the Edge-Based Smoothed Finite Element Method and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method

This paper presents a technique to evaluate the fracture parameters by combining the edge based smoothed finite element method (ESFEM) and the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). A semi-analytical solution is sought in the region close to the vicinity of the crack tip using the SBFEM, whilst, the ESFEM is used for the rest of the domain. As both methods satisfy the partition of unity...

Domain decomposition with non-matching grids for coupling of FEM and natural BEM

In this paper, we introduce a domain decomposition method with non-matching grids for solving Dirichlet exterior boundary problems by coupling of finite element method (FEM) and natural boundary element method(BEM). We first derive the optimal energy error estimate of the nonconforming approximation generated by this method. Then we apply a Dirichlet-Neumann(D-N) alternating algorithm to solve ...

Connecting Atomistic-to-Continuum Coupling and Domain Decomposition

Many atomistic/continuum coupling algorithms utilize an overlapping subdomain method, where boundary data for local solves in atomistic and discretized continuum subdomains is provided from local solves in neighboring subdomains. Such coupling algorithms are closely related to the classical alternating Schwarz domain decomposition method, although little to no convergence or error analysis exis...

Pii: S0955-7997(00)00014-x

An overlapping iterative domain decomposition approach for the coupling of the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM) is presented in this paper. In this proposed method, the domain of the original problem is subdivided into a FEM sub-domain and a BEM sub-domain, such that the two sub-domains partially overlap over a common region. The common region is modeled by both...
