چکیده
We present diffraction-limited 2-25 µm images obtained with the W. M. Keck 10-m telescopes that spatially resolve the cool source, IRS 21, one of a small group of enigmatic objects in the central parsec of our Galaxy that have eluded classification. Modeled as a Gaussian, the azimuthally-averaged intensity profile of IRS 21 has a half-width half-maximum (HWHM) size of 650±80 AU at 2.2 µm and an average HWHM size of 1600±200 AU at mid-infrared wavelengths. These large apparent sizes imply an extended distribution of dust. The mid-infrared color map indicates that IRS 21 is a self-luminous source rather than an externally heated dust clump as originally suggested. The spectral energy distribution has distinct near-and mid-infrared components. A simple radiative transfer code, which simultaneously fits the near-and mid-infrared photometry and intensity profiles, supports a model in which the near-infrared radiation is scattered and extincted light from an embedded central source, while the mid-infrared emission is from thermally re-radiating silicate dust. We argue that IRS 21 (and by analogy the other luminous sources along the Northern Arm) is a massive star experiencing rapid mass loss and plowing through the Northern Arm, thereby generating a bow shock, which is spatially resolved in our observations.

We present new 2.2 µm diffraction-limited images from the W. M. Keck 10 m and Gemini 8 m telescopes of the cool Galactic Center sources, IRS 1W, 5, 8, 10W, and 21 along with new proper motions for IRS 1W, 10W and 21. These observations were carried out to test the bowshock hypothesis presented by Tanner et al. as an alternative to a very recent (10 4 yr) epoch of star formation within the tidal...
متن کاملA Measurement of Proper Motions of SiO Maser Sources in the Galactic Center with the VLBA
We report on the high-precision astrometric observations of maser sources around the Galactic Center in the SiO J=1–0 v=1 and 2 lines with the VLBA during 2001 – 2004. With phase-referencing interferometry referred to the radio continuum source Sgr A*, accurate positions of masers were obtained for three detected objects: IRS 10 EE (7 epochs), IRS 15NE (2 epochs), and SiO 6 (only 1 epoch). Beca...
متن کاملThe effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملLetter to the Editor An X-ray binary model for the Galactic Center source IRS 13E
We present several models for IRS 13E, an infrared, mm and X-ray source in the Galactic Center. Our favored interpretation is that of an early-type binary with strong colliding winds emission. This naturally explains the observed X-ray count rate and the strong infrared emission lines, and has a distinct advantage over competing hypotheses based upon a single star or black-hole system.
