In data transmission applications, a non-ideal transmission channel causes distortions such as intersymbol interference and crosstalk between the subrate bands of the transmultiplexer. Hence, in order to equalize these distortions, subband equalizers, which a ect the intersymbol interference and crosstalk behavior, are considered for implementation. The special structure of modi ed DFT transmultiplexers requires a discussion concerning the various possibilities of placing the subband equalizers at the receiver. Wiener solutions and LMS adaptive algorithms for various new subband equalizer structures are derived and compared by means of simulation results.

Per-Tone Equalization for Single Carrier Block Transmission with Insufficient Cyclic Prefix

This paper proposes per-tone equalization methods for single carrier block transmission with cyclic prefix (SC-CP) systems. Minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) based optimum weights of the per-tone equalizers are derived for SISO (single-input single-output), SIMO (single-input multipleoutput), and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) SC-CP systems. Unlike conventional frequency domain equalizati...

Optimal Channel Equalization for MIMO Time-Varying Channels

We consider optimal channel equalization for MIMO (multi-input/multi-output) time-varying channels in the sense of MMSE (minimum mean-squared-error), where the observation noise can be non-stationary. We show that all ZF (zero-forcing) receivers can be parameterized in an affine form which eliminates completely the ISI (inter-symbol-interference), and optimal channel equalizers can be designed ...

Turbo-equalization of Pulse Shaped Multi-carrier Modulation in Doubly Selective Channels

There is a growing demand for higher data rate systems that can function in a highly mobile environment. This mandates the design of communication systems that can function in doubly selective channels. Pulse-shaped multi-carrier modulation schemes prove to be an attractive option for transmission over doubly-dispersive channels. The pulse shapes are designed to yield an inter-symbol/inter-carr...

On the Practical Aspects of Joint Passive Phase Conjugation and Equalization Underwater Communication Systems

Underwater acoustic communication systems suffer from the channel impairments which results in time spreading of the transmitted signal. In underwater environment, multiple replicas of the transmitted signal are received at the receiver through different paths, which causes significant Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFE) was utilized to overcome this type of inte...

Performance Analysis of the Cooperative ZP-OFDM: Diversity, Capacity and Complexity

In this paper, we investigate the diversity, capacity and complexity issues of cooperative Zero-Padding (ZP)-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communication. We consider cooperative ZP-OFDM communication over a multipath Rayleigh channel and with multiple Carrier Frequency Offsets (CFOs) existing at different relays. We use a cooperative tall Toeplitz scheme to achieve full coop...
