Monitoring and steering Grid applications with GRID superscalar
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the design and implementation of a general task monitoring and steering system for Grid applications (GSTAT). The system is integrated in theGRID superscalar (GRIDSs) programming framework. Information at the application, Grid node, and individual task levels are supplied upon request. Using the steering capabilities, individual tasks or the whole application can be cancelled. The corresponding jobs can be restarted using fault tolerance and checkpointing capabilities based on GRIDSs. In addition, the computational resources assigned to an application can be modified. GSTAT is tested using high throughput and high performance computing cases on an Internet-based Grid of computers. © 2009 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Performance monitoring of GRID superscalar with OCM-G/G-PM: integration issues
In this report the use of a Grid-enabled system for performance monitoring of GRID superscalar-compliant applications is addressed. Performance monitoring is built on top of the OCM-G monitoring system developed in the EU IST CrossGrid project. A graphical user tool G-PM is used to interpret information received from the monitoring system. We discuss the issues related to the performance analys...
متن کاملgridMonSteer: Generic Architecture for Monitoring and Steering Legacy Applications in Grid Environments
Grid environments present a virtual black box to scientists running legacy applications, with the Grid infrastructure effectively hiding the running application on a resource over which the scientist generally has limited or no control. Existing monitoring systems that allow Grid-enabled applications to communicate their progress and receive steering information are inapplicable as they require...
متن کاملGRID Superscalar and GriCoL: Integrating Different Programming Approaches
One way to ease the development of Grid applications is to specify and design an Integrated Toolkit which will enable the development of Grid-unaware applications i.e. applications where the Grid is transparent to them but that are able to exploit its resources. Achieving this vision of an Integrated Toolkit requires the investigation and definition of integration between different systems. Thi...
متن کاملAutomatic Grid workflow based on imperative programming languages
GRID superscalar is a Grid programming environment that enables one to parallelize the execution of sequential applications in computational Grids. The run-time library automatically builds a task datadependence graph of the application and it can be seen as an implicit workflow system. The current interface supports C/C++ and Perl applications. The run-time library is based on Globus Toolkit 2...
متن کاملGrid Programming Models and Environments
This chapter presents various models for creating Grid applications and runtime environments for managing the execution of applications on global Grids. The chapter discusses superscalar, message passing, remote procedure calls, bag of tasks, distributed objects, threads, workflows, and Grid services programming models supported by existing implementations Gridsuperscalar, MPICH-G, Ninf-G, Nimr...
