چکیده
Analytical microbiology may be defined as that branch of microbiology in which microorganisms are used as reagents for the quantitative determination of certain chemical compounds. The procedures used for analysis are based on the reaction of a particular microorganism to its environment. If a suitable microorganism will react with a measurable response to a certain chemical entity, an analytical method for the quantitative estimation of the substance may be devised. Theoretically, any chemical might be assayed. In practice, a wide range of substances, from simple mineral elements to complex organic compounds, are assayed. The methods available for the assay of these many different materials range from qualitative through semiquantitative to quantitative procedures. Many articles and reviews have been written on specific methodology for given chemical entities. This series of papers deals with the theoretical aspects of analytical microbiology which are common to all types of methods, regardless of the material being assayed. The first paper will deal with the test organism, as this is the essential part of any microbiological procedure. The following papers of the series will consider the procedures. For the purposes of this series, all methods used for microbiological assay have been classified in one of the following categories: (1) diffusion methods; (2) turbidimetric methods; (3) metabolic response methods; (4) gravimetric methods.

During validation and verification of the system for the proper implementation of HACCP principles, it is essential to rely on microbiological data. Considerable science research has been carried out during the last twenty years on sampling and testing of carcasses for hygiene criteria. This includes the preferable indicator microorganisms to be used, in order to indicate the general hygiene of...

1. GENERAL INTRODUCTION The objective of this chapter is to facilitate the implementation and use of alternative microbiological methods where this can lead to cost-effective microbiological control and improved assurance for the quality of pharmaceutical products. These alternative methods may also find a place in environmental monitoring. The microbiological methods described in the European ...
متن کاملEffect of Potassium Chloride and Potassium-Based Emulsifying Salts as a Salt (Sodium chloride) Replacer on the Chemical and Microbiological Characteristics of Pasteurized Process Cheese
The consumption of sodium in excessive amount may lead to heart disease, which is the first leading cause of death in the United States. Process cheese is one of the high salt containing milk products. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects of potassium chloride (KCl) and potassium based emulsifying salts as a salt (NaCl) replacer on the chemical and microbiological...
متن کاملThe effect of high pressure homogenization on microorganisms in milk
Milk is a highly consumed product worldwide mainly because of nutrient content, but this rich composition associated to pH and water activity makes the milk an ideal medium for microbial growth. The thermal process is usually applied to guarantee microbial stability of milk, however, the heat promotes undesirable changes in the milk sensory and nutritional characteristics. Therefore, recent res...
